The United States Capitol Police (USCP) is opening its doors once again to experienced federal law enforcement retirees. This rare opportunity allows you to return to service as a Special Agent within the Protective Services Bureau. With a starting salary of $142,513 annually, this role combines prestige, responsibility, and impact at the very center of the nation’s legislative branch.

Why This Role Stands Apart

Safeguarding Congress is more than a job. It is a mission that ensures elected leaders can perform their constitutional duties without disruption, fear, or threat. As a Special Agent, you will stand at the intersection of security and history, where every assignment matters and every decision counts.

Applicants re-employed under this program are eligible for the dual compensation offset waiver, which allows you to earn both your full annuity and your full salary with no penalty. This unique benefit makes the role financially rewarding in addition to its unmatched purpose.

Where You Will Serve

This permanent, full-time position is based in Washington, DC. Special Agents are assigned to either the Dignitary Protection Division (DPD) or the Investigations Division (ID) within the Protective Services Bureau. Your work will include

  • Safeguarding congressional leaders and their families
  • Coordinating security for official travel inside and outside the United States

  • Investigating criminal and terrorist activity related to Members of Congress
  • Gathering, evaluating, and sharing intelligence
  • Conducting surveillance and counter-surveillance operations
  • Coordinating with federal, state, and local agencies
  • Serving arrest and search warrants and working with judicial authorities

Agents in ID work where intelligence meets action, often dealing with cases of high complexity and national interest.
