Position Overview

The UK Trading IT Solutions team is seeking a Principal Support Analyst to join immediately on a 12-month fixed-term contract. The role sits within a fast-paced UK energy trading environment, providing a unique opportunity to operate at the intersection of technology and business.

As the focal point for IT operations in the London office, the Principal Support Analyst will act as both a technical expert and a trusted business partner. This position is ideal for an ambitious professional with a mix of interpersonal and technical skills, eager to contribute to the growth of Uniper’s UK trading business.

Key Responsibilities

  1. IT Operations & Risk Management
    • Oversee incident management, root cause analysis, and compliance with regulatory and security requirements.
    • Ensure services are resilient, disaster recovery-ready, and designed to mitigate risks.
  2. Stakeholder Engagement & Business Partnership
    • Act as the principal liaison for Trading IT in London.
    • Collaborate with key business stakeholders to design effective IT systems and solutions.
  3. Project & Program Leadership
    • Lead IT projects, from feasibility to delivery, including benefits case design, cost management, and developer coordination.
    • Ensure coherence across multiple workstreams and align with the overall IT strategy.
  4. Continuous Improvement & Innovation
    • Establish and promote best practices within IT services.
    • Identify system and project improvement opportunities, introducing innovations that enhance business outcomes.
  5. Strategic Planning & Expansion
    • Plan and expand IT services across the wider IT community.
    • Support integration of new trading products and enhancements across the trade lifecycle.
  6. Technical Expertise & Mentorship
    • Stay abreast of IT trends and emerging technologies.
    • Mentor solution experts and junior team members, driving technical excellence within the team.
  7. Collaboration & Supplier Management
    • Work closely with architects, data management functions, and third-party suppliers.
    • Negotiate and manage external contracts to ensure cost-effective solutions.

Candidate Profile

Essential Requirements:

  • Significant experience in IT operations or systems analysis.
  • Proven track record in design, development, and testing of large-scale multi-user applications.
  • Strong background in performance tuning, integration, and backend systems.
  • Skilled in influencing system design and liaising with senior stakeholders.
  • Excellent communication and workshop facilitation skills.
  • Experience collaborating with business analysts and user communities.
  • Familiarity with the full development lifecycle and methodologies.
  • Mentoring and leadership capabilities.
  • Self-starter with strong problem-solving skills and minimal need for supervision.

Desirable Qualities:

  • Degree in IT, Engineering, or a digital discipline.
  • Fluency in German.
  • Experience in European gas and power traded markets.
  • Exposure to GUI design and front/back-end technologies.
  • Previous IT support or infrastructure background with interest in business-facing analyst roles.
