Senior Developer Success Engineer – Cloud Infrastructure & Distributed Systems

Temporal Technologies is hiring a Senior Developer Success Engineer to provide hands-on technical guidance to developers deploying and scaling Temporal across cloud-native environments. This position combines developer support with distributed systems troubleshooting, infrastructure automation, observability, networking, and performance optimization.

This is a remote U.S. opportunity specifically requiring candidates to reside within the Pacific Time Zone. You will work directly with developers and engineering teams while helping improve the reliability, scalability, and overall developer experience of Temporal deployments.

Job Overview

As a frontline technical expert for Temporal’s developer community, you will investigate challenging production and infrastructure problems across environments involving AWS, Google Cloud Platform, Kubernetes, containers, and microservices. The role requires both strong technical problem-solving abilities and the communication skills needed to guide developers through complex infrastructure decisions.

Once fully ramped up, you will independently drive technical solutions ranging from production debugging and performance tuning to infrastructure best practices and self-service diagnostic capabilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Help developers deploy, operate, troubleshoot, and scale Temporal within cloud-native environments.
  • Investigate complex infrastructure problems involving scalability, reliability, performance, and distributed systems.
  • Work directly with developers to diagnose production issues and improve the reliability of their Temporal environments.
  • Optimize cloud infrastructure and identify improvements that support efficient operation at scale.
  • Develop and improve observability solutions using technologies such as Prometheus and Grafana.
  • Troubleshoot networking concerns involving load balancing, DNS, ingress, and egress.
  • Automate infrastructure operations using Terraform and other Infrastructure as Code approaches.
  • Apply programming skills in areas such as infrastructure automation, resilience engineering, diagnostics, and performance tuning.
  • Engage with developers, engineering teams, and product teams to understand infrastructure challenges and develop practical technical solutions.
  • Contribute insights that can improve Temporal’s platform, observability tooling, and developer experience.
  • Help develop self-service infrastructure and diagnostic capabilities that make troubleshooting easier for users.
  • Translate technical findings and customer use cases into recommendations for infrastructure and architecture improvements.

Required Qualifications

  • 72+ months of professional experience as a developer.
  • Proficiency in one or more relevant programming languages, preferably Python, Java, Go, or TypeScript.
  • Experience deploying and managing medium- to large-scale architectures using technologies such as Kubernetes or Docker.
  • Experience using monitoring platforms such as Prometheus and Grafana.
  • Ability to troubleshoot infrastructure performance and availability issues.
  • At least 12 months of experience working in an internal or external customer-facing role.
  • Experience working with or as part of remote teams.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • A problem-solving approach grounded in understanding requirements, using data, and working from facts.
  • Commitment to helping developers and users resolve technical challenges.
  • Residence within the Pacific Time Zone in the United States.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in customer-facing technical positions such as Professional Services Consultant, Solutions Architect, or Customer Engineer.
  • Experience implementing and managing security certificates.
  • Ability to understand customer use cases and translate them into Temporal architecture and design recommendations.
  • Experience with technologies such as EKS, GKE, Kubernetes, Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTracing, Terraform, Ansible, or CDK.

Compensation

The estimated compensation range for this position is $140,000 – $180,000 per year, based on experience and location.

This role is also eligible to participate in Temporal’s equity plan. Employment offers take factors such as experience, knowledge, expertise, skills, market location, and assessed job level into consideration.

Work Arrangement

This is a remote opportunity within the United States, and candidates must reside in the Pacific Time Zone. Temporal operates as a globally distributed organization, and experience working effectively with remote teams is required.

Occasional travel may be necessary for company events, team offsites, and other in-person gatherings.
