Position Overview

The Armament Equipment Repair Inspector (Title 32) is responsible for inspecting and evaluating the repair of various armament systems, ensuring that equipment meets stringent operational and safety standards. This position is classified under WG-6601-10 and requires specialized knowledge in mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Conduct inspections on a variety of armament materiel, including artillery, tank turrets, small arms, chemical weapons, optical, and fire control equipment.
  • Utilize diagnostic and test equipment such as borescopes, pullover gauges, and nitrogen pressure gauges to assess repair requirements.
  • Evaluate equipment received for maintenance to determine necessary repairs and parts or confirm application of Modification Work Orders (MWO).
  • Inspect equipment from storage or before issuance to units to ensure full operational readiness.
  • Apply Maintenance Expenditure Limits (MEL) to assess the economic feasibility of repairs.
  • Perform in-process inspections to guarantee adherence to technical and quality standards.
  • Support field organizations and units at remote sites during exercises or before major repairs at maintenance facilities.

Ideal Candidate Profile

Required Qualifications

  • Must be a current member of the Illinois National Guard at the specified military grade (Enlisted/Warrant Officer E3-WO1) before placement.
  • Experience in mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and pneumatic systems, including diagnosing malfunctions and making adjustments.
  • Ability to use technical manuals, schematics, diagrams, and specialized tools in the repair and inspection of armament equipment.
  • Strong knowledge of repairing, rebuilding, modifying, and testing weapons systems components.

Additional Requirements

  • Must wear a military uniform while performing duties.
  • Males born after December 31, 1959, must be registered for Selective Service.
  • Federal employment suitability is determined through a background investigation.
  • Participation in direct deposit is mandatory.
  • Position is covered under the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment of the Gun Control Act (Lautenberg Amendment).
