Position Overview
The Hartford is seeking an Agentic AI Data Scientist to join its Global Specialty Data Science & Analytics team. This role places Generative AI at the center of strategy, applying advanced AI techniques to underwriting, claims processing, and customer service. The successful candidate will design, build, and evaluate GenAI solutions while shaping enterprise-wide AI capabilities. Core Responsibilities
- Drive AI innovation by identifying and implementing high-impact use cases aligned with business goals and industry trends.
- Support enterprise AI strategy and roadmap, positioning The Hartford as a leader in insurance AI applications.
- Collaborate with stakeholders across Data Science, Technology, and business units to enhance productivity and efficiency in underwriting and sales.
- Design and deploy GenAI solutions for summarization, question answering, search, and data synthesis.
- Apply AI to low-frequency, high-severity exposures in Specialty Insurance.
- Rapidly prototype using tools like VertexAI, LangChain/LangGraph, RAG frameworks, HuggingFace, and OpenAI APIs.
- Research and recommend foundation models, libraries, and tools to optimize solution performance and reliability.
- Develop evaluation pipelines for generative outputs using automatic metrics, human feedback, and LLM-as-a-judge methods.
- Work with ML Ops to ensure scalable training and deployment following best practices.
Best Candidate Profile
Education Requirements:
- Master’s or PhD in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Engineering, or related fields.
Preferred Qualifications:
- 3+ years of industry experience in machine learning or data science, with at least 1 year focused on Generative AI.
- Hands-on experience developing and deploying agentic AI workflows and systems.
- Proficiency with GenAI tools, including Vertex AI, LangChain/LangGraph, RAG frameworks, HuggingFace, and OpenAI APIs.
- Strong knowledge of prompt engineering, agent workflows, RAG methods, and LLM evaluation.
- Expertise in Python and ML frameworks such as PyTorch or TensorFlow.
- Experience with vector databases (Chroma, Pinecone) and cloud platforms (GCP, AWS, Azure).
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and debugging skills.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to explain complex AI concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
- Must be authorized to work in the US without sponsorship.
