Software Engineer – Advanced Nuclear Modeling & Simulation
Oklo is hiring a Software Engineer to work alongside nuclear engineers on software used to model, simulate, design, and deploy advanced fission power technology. This position combines software engineering with scientific computing, simulation infrastructure, data processing, optimization, and engineering automation.
The role may be based at Oklo’s headquarters in Santa Clara, California, or worked remotely. A nuclear engineering background is not required, but candidates should be curious, technically adaptable, and interested in learning about advanced energy systems.
Job Overview
As a Software Engineer, you will address a wide range of technical challenges related to reactor design and analysis. Projects may involve improving how reactor data and physics results are stored, building CI/CD pipelines for multiphysics analysis, developing visualization tools, integrating simulation software, implementing physics kernels, and creating optimization systems that inform reactor design decisions.
This is a hands-on engineering role within a fast-moving startup environment where software is used to improve the speed, reliability, and quality of complex nuclear engineering workflows.
Key Responsibilities
- Transform and optimize the storage of reactor data and physics results.
- Design and configure CI/CD pipelines used to perform multiphysics analyses.
- Build software tools that help reactor engineers visualize, compare, and evaluate reactor designs and physics results.
- Integrate simulation tools into engineering analysis pipelines.
- Implement physics kernels to solve engineering problems or improve the performance of existing models.
- Develop high-level reactor optimization schemes.
- Design statistical experiments that help inform reactor design changes.
- Identify inefficiencies in reactor design processes that can be improved through software.
- Collaborate closely with nuclear engineers and other technical disciplines on open-ended engineering problems.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or equivalent work experience.
- 36+ months of professional work experience.
- Fluency in Python.
- Proficiency with Git.
- Experience working with CI/CD systems.
- Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively across technical disciplines.
- Ability to work independently within a fast-moving startup environment.
- Strong problem-solving skills and comfort working with ambiguous or open-ended technical challenges.
- Attention to detail and commitment to engineering quality.
Preferred Qualifications
- Proficiency in Rust.
- Proficiency in TypeScript or JavaScript, particularly Svelte.
- Experience helping grow small software engineering organizations.
- Experience working with large data collection pipelines.
- Experience with optimization, statistics, and design of experiments.
- Knowledge of GitLab CI/CD.
- Experience developing and implementing software quality assurance and testing programs, particularly within quality-focused industries.
- Interest in nuclear power, nuclear fuel cycle technologies, and sustainable energy generation.

Compensation
The stated compensation range for this position is $110,000–$155,000 USD per year.

Work Arrangement & Travel
This position may be based in Santa Clara, California, or worked remotely.
Remote employees are required to travel to Oklo’s headquarters in Santa Clara twice per quarter based on business or team needs. Travel may include team meetings, off-sites, company events, and other gatherings.
Remote employees are also required to spend their first two weeks of onboarding in person at the Santa Clara headquarters.
