Data Analyst / SQL Specialist – Reporting & Database Analytics

CRAE GROUP is hiring a Data Analyst / SQL Specialist to support business teams with SQL reporting, query development, data validation, and review of existing database queries. This is a hands-on position for someone who can work directly with relational databases and translate business questions into accurate, dependable data outputs.

The role is fully remote and available to candidates in France, Cyprus, Belgium, Romania, Poland, and Estonia. You will collaborate with technical, product, finance, CRM, operations, and management stakeholders while taking ownership of the accuracy and logic behind important reports.

Job Overview

This position goes beyond writing SQL queries from predefined requests. You will need to understand why information is being requested, clarify ambiguous requirements, validate reporting logic, investigate inconsistencies, and identify situations where data could be incomplete or misleading.

You will also review existing SQL for accuracy and performance, improve reporting approaches where appropriate, and help ensure that business decisions are supported by numbers stakeholders can trust.

Key Responsibilities

  • Create one-off SQL reports in response to operational and business requirements.
  • Translate reporting requests from management, finance, product, CRM, and operations teams into reliable data outputs.
  • Write, review, and improve SQL used across reports, dashboards, exports, and internal systems.
  • Investigate existing queries for problems involving joins, duplicate records, aggregation logic, missing filters, and other potential data-quality issues.
  • Review resource-intensive or slow-running queries and recommend improvements to their performance and structure.
  • Validate reported figures against agreed business definitions and underlying data logic.
  • Recommend appropriate improvements to SQL structure, database indexes, views, or reporting approaches.
  • Document the underlying logic of important reports and recurring SQL queries.
  • Work with developers and business stakeholders to clarify requirements, assumptions, and edge cases.
  • Identify and communicate concerns when available data could result in incomplete, inaccurate, or misleading conclusions.

Required Qualifications

  • Strong practical SQL experience within production environments.
  • Ability to develop, review, troubleshoot, and optimize complex SQL queries.
  • Solid understanding of joins, aggregations, subqueries, common table expressions, indexes, and query execution logic.
  • Experience working with relational database systems such as MySQL, PostgreSQL, or comparable technologies.
  • Ability to interpret business requirements and translate them into accurate data and reporting outputs.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to identify inconsistencies and questionable results within datasets.
  • Effective debugging and investigative skills when reported figures do not match expected results.
  • Ability to explain SQL logic, data findings, and reporting conclusions to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Practical approach to improving existing queries without introducing unnecessary complexity.
  • Clear communication skills and a strong sense of responsibility for the quality of completed work.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with business intelligence or reporting platforms such as Metabase, Power BI, Tableau, Looker, or similar tools.
  • Experience working with Laravel/PHP applications or their underlying product databases.
  • Experience analyzing finance, CRM, payments, user activity, gaming, or high-volume transactional datasets.
  • Understanding of database execution plans and performance analysis.
  • Ability to recommend broader improvements to reporting structures rather than focusing only on individual SQL queries.
  • Experience supporting dashboards, data exports, and recurring business reports.

Technical Skills

  • SQL query development and optimization.
  • MySQL, PostgreSQL, or comparable relational databases.
  • Joins, aggregations, subqueries, and CTEs.
  • Database indexes and query execution analysis.
  • Data validation and reporting logic.
  • Database performance troubleshooting.
  • Business intelligence and reporting workflows.
  • Dashboard and recurring report support.

Core Areas of Focus

  • Accurate SQL reporting.
  • Query review and optimization.
  • Business data validation.
  • Reporting reliability.
  • Database performance.
  • Data-quality investigation.
  • Cross-functional reporting requirements.
  • Documentation of reporting logic.
