Role Summary

The Head of Legal for Commercial Resolution and Disputes oversees the legal team that manages disputes, litigation, investigations, and claims. This position guides the strategic direction of the legal function and supports major commercial and operational decisions across the business. The role works closely with the Group General Counsel, the Legal leadership team, and senior stakeholders to assess risk, strengthen governance, and improve legal capability.

Primary Responsibilities

Strategic Legal Leadership

The role leads the Commercial Resolution and Disputes team. It ensures the delivery of clear legal advice, consistent governance, and efficient resource planning across the wider Legal group.

Disputes and Investigations Oversight

The position manages litigation, arbitration, regulatory investigations, claims prevention, and claims resolution. It provides regular reporting to senior stakeholders and updates on emerging legal and regulatory changes.

Stakeholder Collaboration

The role partners with business teams to select and manage external legal advisors, consultants, experts, and counsel. It ensures that external support remains aligned with commercial needs and cost expectations.

Team Capability and Growth

The position focuses on developing a high-performing legal team built on inclusion, well-being, and continuous improvement. It supports innovation and operational excellence across the Legal function.

Operational Contribution

As part of the Legal leadership group, the role helps enhance performance, processes, and modern legal practices that add measurable value to the organisation.

Ideal Candidate Profile

Candidates bring extensive experience in commercial legal environments, either in private practice or in-house. They hold profound expertise in disputes, litigation, investigations, and claims management. A current practising certificate is required. Strong leadership experience is essential, including coaching high-performing teams and advising senior executives.

The role suits someone who communicates with clarity, manages complexity with ease, and interprets commercial scenarios with sound judgement. Experience using technology, data, and modern legal tools to improve decision-making is highly valued. Transurban welcomes applicants who meet most, even if not all, of the requirements.
