Key Responsibilities
Acting Leadership and Delegated Authority
- Step in as Acting Director during absences, exercising full authority over OSP operations

Strategic and Institutional Planning
- Assist in shaping long-term research administration strategies across the Institution

Stakeholder Engagement and Representation
- Build strong relationships with external funding partners and internal Smithsonian units

Qualifications Needed for Success
Applicants should bring a blend of advanced education, leadership experience, and a deep understanding of research administration. Specifically, candidates must have:
- An advanced degree from an accredited institution and five or more years of relevant experience (or equivalent education and experience)
- Proven ability to manage research administration operations in a dynamic environment
- Experience in strategic planning, forecasting funding trends, and implementing operational improvements
- Strong financial and analytical skills with knowledge of cash flow systems and policy compliance
- Familiarity with grants administration, export controls, international project management, and scholarly research projects
