Role Overview
The Tax Manager plays a technical and execution driven role within the Global Tax team, with primary responsibility for Canadian tax matters. Reporting to the Senior Tax Manager, this position ensures the accurate preparation, documentation, and filing of core tax obligations while supporting strategic tax initiatives across the organization.
Moreover, the role bridges compliance, financial reporting, and operational tax support, thereby strengthening the integrity of tax processes and enhancing collaboration with finance and business units.
Core Responsibilities
Tax Planning and Strategic Support
The Tax Manager contributes to complex tax initiatives by executing defined components of planning projects and mergers and acquisitions. This includes preparing detailed documentation and supporting data to facilitate informed decision-making.
In addition, the role supports transfer pricing documentation and assists in identifying opportunities related to tax incentives and credits, such as research and development programs. By collaborating with internal stakeholders, the incumbent provides technical tax analysis that supports day-to-day operational queries.
Compliance and Reporting Excellence
A key component of the role involves supporting the preparation and filing of Canadian direct and indirect tax returns. These include corporate income tax, GST or VAT, employment tax, pension tax, withholding tax, and transfer pricing obligations.
The Tax Manager also supports quarterly and annual tax provision cycles by preparing reporting schedules, drafting supporting documentation, and assisting in the management of uncertain tax positions.
Furthermore, the position contributes to audit readiness by organizing documentation and coordinating responses during tax audits or disputes. At the same time, the role supports continuous improvement initiatives aimed at standardizing processes and enhancing efficiency across compliance and reporting functions.
Tax Technology and Data Integrity
To ensure operational accuracy, the Tax Manager actively utilizes tax engines and workflow automation tools implemented within the department. The role maintains data integrity by generating, reconciling, and analyzing system-generated reports used for compliance and reporting purposes.
Through disciplined use of the system and attention to detail, the incumbent strengthens internal controls and supports accurate tax analysis.
Required Candidate Profile
Professional Credentials and Experience
The ideal candidate holds a CPA, CA, or equivalent professional accounting designation. In addition, the candidate brings at least 3 years of progressive experience in corporate tax, including exposure to public accounting.
A demonstrated track record in preparing and filing Canadian tax returns and supporting tax reporting processes is essential.
Technical Expertise and Capabilities
Strong technical expertise in Canadian tax is required. Working knowledge of transfer pricing, cross-border structuring, and employment tax enhances suitability for the role.
The successful candidate demonstrates advanced analytical skills, strong organizational discipline, and the ability to manage detailed work while meeting strict deadlines. Completion of an in-depth tax program is considered an asset.
Compensation and Employment Details
The annual salary range for this position is CAD 90,000 to 115,000. The final offer may vary depending on the candidate’s experience, technical knowledge, and demonstrated capabilities.
