The Opportunity

TMX Group is seeking a strategic, visionary Head of Technology and Artificial Intelligence to lead and scale AI and Machine Learning initiatives. This executive role is responsible for defining the technical vision, architecture, and standards that guide AI-driven products and services across the organization.

The successful candidate will translate emerging technologies into practical business solutions while ensuring AI capabilities deliver measurable impact and sustained competitive advantage. In addition, this leader will cultivate high-performing engineering teams and foster a culture centered on innovation, accountability, and technical excellence.

Key Areas of Leadership

AI Vision and Technology Strategy

The role defines and communicates a long-term technology roadmap for integrating Generative AI into core workflows and products. It establishes architectural standards and selects models and frameworks to support scalable, secure AI adoption across the ecosystem.

Agentic Systems and Advanced Architecture

This position architects and deploys multi-agent systems in which AI agents autonomously execute complex tasks, reducing manual operational demands. It ensures systems are designed for appropriate scale, latency, and availability, and integrate seamlessly into product and infrastructure environments.

Platform and LLM Operations

The Head of Technology oversees the development of reliable and secure LLM operations and agent platforms. These platforms enable rapid deployment, monitoring, and iteration of AI solutions, with a strong emphasis on solution delivery rather than prolonged experimentation.

Innovation and Emerging Technologies

The role continuously evaluates advancements in Generative AI, large language models, and related research breakthroughs. By assessing the business applicability of TMX, the leader ensures it remains at the forefront of technological innovation in global capital markets.

Governance and Responsible AI

The position establishes coding standards, data quality requirements, and ethical AI guidelines. It provides enterprise-wide guidance and internal consultancy to ensure responsible development practices aligned with regulatory and business expectations.

Budget and Resource Management

The Head of Technology manages departmental budgets, optimizes cloud utilization, and makes informed build-versus-buy decisions. Through strategic resource planning, the role ensures operational efficiency while advancing innovation objectives.

Team Development and Cross-Functional Alignment

This leader recruits, mentors, and develops a world class team of AI engineers. Moreover, the role serves as the primary technical interface between AI, product leadership, data science, and core engineering teams, ensuring alignment between technology choices and business priorities.

Delivery and Performance Oversight

The position oversees the execution of multiple complex AI initiatives, ensuring timely delivery, adherence to quality standards, and measurable business outcomes.

Desired Candidate

Education and Professional Background

The ideal candidate holds a degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related quantitative discipline.

In addition, the candidate brings at least eight years of progressive technology experience, including demonstrated hands-on expertise in Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, and Generative AI.

Technical Expertise

The successful applicant demonstrates:

  • Deep experience designing and deploying Machine Learning or Generative AI solutions in production environments
  • Strong proficiency within major cloud platforms such as AWS, Google Cloud Platform, or Microsoft Azure
  • Expert knowledge of modern AI architectures, deep learning frameworks such as PyTorch or TensorFlow, and distributed computing technologies.

Leadership Capabilities

Equally important are exceptional leadership and communication skills. The candidate must influence executive stakeholders, inspire engineering teams, and build collaborative relationships across functions while driving technical excellence.

Compensation and Additional Information

The salary range for this position is $145,000 to $165,000 CAD. The final offer may vary based on the selected candidate’s experience, knowledge, and demonstrated capabilities.
