SEO & AEO Strategist

BetterHelp is hiring an experienced SEO and Answer Engine Optimization Strategist to lead organic visibility initiatives across traditional search engines and emerging AI-powered discovery platforms. This remote U.S. role will focus on improving the performance, quality, authority, and usefulness of a large healthcare content portfolio.

The position is suited to a search professional who combines analytical rigor with hands-on content optimization experience. You will identify high-impact opportunities, lead large-scale content refresh programs, evaluate competitive performance, and help BetterHelp produce trustworthy mental health information within a highly regulated search environment.

Job Overview

As the SEO and AEO Strategist, you will own the strategy used to improve content visibility across Google, other traditional search platforms, and AI-generated answer experiences. Your work will extend beyond rankings and keyword coverage to include user intent, topical authority, expert review, answer quality, trust signals, conversion potential, and measurable business impact.

You will collaborate with editorial, clinical, content, and subject-matter teams to ensure optimized pages remain accurate, genuinely helpful, and aligned with E-E-A-T and YMYL quality expectations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute organic search strategies for traditional search engines and AI-powered answer platforms.
  • Own large-scale, AI-assisted content refresh initiatives across BetterHelp’s U.S. content portfolio.
  • Identify and prioritize pages with strong search demand, business relevance, conversion potential, or competitive opportunity.
  • Improve content so it provides clear, useful, authoritative, and trustworthy answers to user questions.
  • Apply E-E-A-T principles and modern search-quality standards throughout optimization projects.
  • Track search algorithm changes, answer-engine developments, and evolving industry practices.
  • Translate search changes into practical recommendations for content and business teams.
  • Serve as the primary owner of SEO and AEO performance reporting.
  • Build and maintain dashboards, performance summaries, and recurring reports for leadership and key stakeholders.
  • Monitor organic traffic, rankings, conversions, engagement, visibility, and performance within AI search experiences.
  • Measure the impact of content refreshes and optimization initiatives.
  • Communicate emerging risks, growth opportunities, and strategic insights to relevant teams.
  • Analyze competitor content, search visibility, topic coverage, and optimization strategies.
  • Identify content gaps, emerging subjects, and opportunities to strengthen topical authority.
  • Evaluate content based on expertise, completeness, trust, user intent, and answer quality.
  • Work with credentialed authors, clinical reviewers, and subject-matter experts to improve authority and accuracy.
  • Recommend whether individual content assets should be refreshed, expanded, combined, or otherwise improved.
  • Maintain a prioritized roadmap of optimization projects for future content sprints.
  • Coordinate with cross-functional teams so search initiatives support wider business objectives.

Required Qualifications

  • At least 48 months of experience in SEO, organic growth, content strategy, or a closely related field.
  • Experience managing or optimizing editorial ecosystems containing hundreds or thousands of content assets.
  • Experience developing and executing search strategies in healthcare, mental health, medical, finance, legal, insurance, or another YMYL environment.
  • Strong understanding of E-E-A-T principles and current search-quality frameworks.
  • Experience optimizing content written, reviewed, or validated by credentialed experts.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze search performance and convert findings into optimization strategies.
  • Experience building and maintaining performance dashboards and leadership reporting.
  • Strong project management and prioritization skills.
  • Clear written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Experience managing stakeholders across multiple teams.

  • Experience managing enterprise-scale content libraries and content refresh programs.
  • Experience with Looker Studio, Tableau, or another business intelligence platform.
  • Understanding of conversion rate optimization and content performance measurement.

Work Arrangement

  • Remote position within the United States.
  • BetterHelp operates on Pacific Time, although candidates in any U.S. time zone may apply.
  • Employees may be asked to visit the San Jose, California office up to three times per year.
  • The position also includes attendance at one company-wide offsite.
  • BetterHelp covers approved travel expenses and may provide reasonable accommodations when travel is not possible because of individual circumstances.

Compensation and Benefits

The annual base salary range for this full-time position is $110,000 to $130,000.

The position is also eligible for a performance bonus. Final compensation may depend on location, experience, education, certifications, and other job-related factors.
