Programme Overview

Stantec Belgium is recruiting two junior professionals to join its International Development Unit – Project Management Team. Through a structured two-year Junior Programme, selected candidates will strengthen the Project Management Team while building a clear pathway toward a future role as Project Manager.

The programme begins with a six-month paid traineeship contract. Following a positive performance evaluation and subject to internal opportunities, candidates may be offered a permanent position in La Hulpe, Belgium, provided agreed-upon targets are met.

This opportunity offers early-career professionals practical exposure to EU-funded external aid projects within a highly international environment.

Role Summary

The selected interns will support the Project Management Team in implementing project activities throughout the full project lifecycle, from contract signature to closing phase. The role requires discipline, adaptability, strong attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.

Main Responsibilities

Project Implementation Support

  • Assist the Project Manager in coordinating and executing project activities from initiation to closure.
  • Monitor the progress of ongoing project activities and ensure timely follow-up.
  • Liaise with clients, experts, and project partners to facilitate day-to-day implementation.
  • Attend project meetings and prepare comprehensive minutes.

Financial and Administrative Coordination

  • Process and follow up on experts’ invoices and review timesheets when applicable.
  • Support the preparation of external financial audits.
  • Identify external consultants and assist with preparing CVs and related administrative documentation.

Logistics and Event Management

  • Coordinate logistics for meetings, conferences, training sessions, and other project-related events.

Documentation and Reporting

  • Manage large volumes of documentation and data while maintaining dashboards in an accurate and up-to-date manner.
  • Format reports and presentations to ensure professional layout and compliance with EU visibility guidelines.
  • Perform additional tasks as assigned by the Project Manager to ensure smooth project execution.

Candidate Requirement

Academic Background

Candidates should hold a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in one of the following fields:

  • International Relations
  • Economics
  • Political Science
  • Environment, Energy, or Climate Studies
  • Other closely related disciplines

Experience and Technical Knowledge

  • Familiarity with European Commission external assistance policies is considered an advantage.
  • Experience in implementing EU contracts is an asset.
  • Academic or professional exposure to the environment, energy, climate change, or technical assistance environments is beneficial.

Skills and Competencies

  • Strong written and spoken English is required. Knowledge of French or Spanish is advantageous.
  • Advanced proficiency in MS Office, particularly Excel.
  • Strong organizational skills with high accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks while maintaining quality standards.
  • Proactive, communicative, open-minded, and results-oriented mindset.

Work Location

The role is virtual within Belgium, with affiliation to Stantec’s La Hulpe office.
