Position Overview
Stantec’s Chicago Buildings team is seeking an experienced Interior Designer to join a top 10 global design firm. The team delivers Architecture, Building Engineering, and Interior Design services across multiple sectors, including hospitality, workplace, civic, retail, healthcare, and higher education. The firm is committed to creating high-performance, award-winning buildings and interiors that are intelligent, sustainable, and timeless.
The Interior Designer will interpret client needs and architectural direction to develop cohesive interior design solutions, including drawings (2D/3D), presentations, and written documentation. The role involves collaboration with architects, engineers, and project managers to develop integrated solutions that enhance the built environment.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Translate sketches, drawings, codes, and program requirements into interior design solutions.
- Assist in the development of design documentation, presentation materials, and visual models.
- Support design through sketches, diagrams, physical and electronic models, massing studies, and other visual formats.
- Utilize BIM technologies to create three-dimensional models of buildings and interior components.
- Participate in design critiques, pin-ups, and team discussions.
- Research concepts, benchmarks, materials, typologies, and precedents.
- Assist with material and furniture selections, space planning, and communication with product representatives.
- Contribute to construction documentation collaboratively with the project team.
Ideal Candidate
Capabilities and Credentials
- Proficiency in Revit as a design tool.
- Experience with design software, including SketchUp, Rhino, Photoshop, InDesign, and Illustrator.
- Familiarity with design equipment such as 3D printers and laser cutters is a plus.
- Strong hand sketching and conceptual communication skills.
- Ability to participate in collaborative project teams and communicate abstract ideas verbally, visually, and in writing.
- Competence in space planning, block planning, and adjacencies in line with project programs.
- Basic understanding of lighting, fixtures, FFE, and project deliverables at various phases.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office; experience with Newforma preferred.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent from a CIDA-accredited Interior Design program or related field required.
- Interior Design license preferred.
- Minimum of five years of professional interior design experience preferred.
