Role Summary
The Machine Learning Engineer plays a critical role in transforming scientific data into scalable artificial intelligence solutions that support drug discovery. Therefore, the position focuses on building, deploying, and maintaining predictive models for molecular properties. In addition, the role ensures technical excellence while collaborating across global teams.
Core Responsibilities
Model Development and Experimentation
The engineer develops modelling code in close partnership with modelling scientists and domain experts. Furthermore, they train machine learning models, monitor performance, and design experiments to improve modelling processes continuously.
Collaboration and Communication
The role involves active communication with cross-functional teams. As a result, the engineer coordinates tasks in an agile environment, presents work internally and to stakeholders, and contributes to knowledge sharing.
Code Quality and Technical Learning
The professional participates in structured code reviews both as a reviewer and a contributor. In addition, they explore new libraries and technologies to evaluate dependencies and maintain strong technical growth.
Engineering Practices
The engineer supports robust engineering standards, including testing, version control, and deployment workflows. Consequently, solutions remain reliable, maintainable, and scalable.
Department Overview
The position sits within the Data and AI Engineering area under AI and Digital Innovation. This group consists of four engineering teams that embed data and machine-learning engineering practices into scientific workflows. Therefore, the department accelerates digitalisation and enables data-driven discovery across research processes.

Educational Background
A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in computer science, electrical engineering, physics, mathematics, statistics, information technology with a focus on AI or ML, or a related field is required.
Professional Experience and Skills
- Four to six years of experience in a similar role within a large enterprise environment
- Experience in the pharmaceutical sector is preferred
- Strong programming expertise in Python, including numpy, scikit learn, PyTorch, and PySpark
- Deep understanding of machine learning frameworks, algorithms, and data structures
- Experience with DevOps practices such as continuous integration, containerisation, and testing
- Knowledge of cloud infrastructure is advantageous
- Fluency in English, both written and spoken
