Backend Software Engineer
Common Room is hiring Backend Software Engineers to help build the infrastructure, APIs, and distributed systems that power its AI-driven Go-to-Market platform. This full-time remote position is open to candidates located anywhere in the United States.
As part of the engineering team, you will develop scalable backend services, improve platform performance, maintain reliable data systems, and contribute to infrastructure that supports customer-facing products and internal machine learning capabilities.
Job Overview
This position focuses on designing and building reliable backend systems capable of supporting large-scale customer data and AI-powered workflows. You will collaborate with engineers in an agile environment to develop APIs, optimize application performance, maintain database systems, and improve platform scalability.
The role also includes participating in software testing, resolving production issues, enhancing system reliability, and contributing to company-wide engineering initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain backend infrastructure, APIs, and core platform services.
- Develop scalable data models and backend features supporting customer-facing products.
- Write clean, efficient, maintainable, and well-tested production code.
- Develop software validation procedures and maintain technical documentation.
- Support infrastructure and internal machine learning systems used across the platform.
- Analyze technical challenges and design scalable, reliable software solutions.
- Consider observability, service-level objectives, scalability, and long-term maintainability during system design.
- Maintain and improve relational database applications.
- Work with cloud infrastructure and modern backend technologies.
- Collaborate with teammates through agile planning, development, testing, and deployment processes.
- Resolve software issues while continuously improving application performance and reliability.
- Participate in company-wide engineering and product improvement initiatives.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering or a related discipline.
- At least 24 months of professional experience as a Software Engineer or in a closely related position.
- Experience designing, developing, testing, and maintaining software systems and application features.
- Experience modifying existing software to improve performance and resolve defects.
- Ability to write clean, efficient, and testable production code.
- Experience managing data storage, retrieval, and manipulation.
- Experience with TypeScript.
- Experience with React.
- Experience using Amazon Web Services (AWS).
- Experience working with Generative AI technologies.
- Experience improving software scalability, performance, and reliability.
- Experience maintaining relational database applications and working with relational and non-relational data structures.

Compensation and Benefits
The annual salary range for this position is $130,000 to $190,000.
