The Opportunity
The Deal Structurer – Power will join a front-office environment undergoing significant transformation in response to business growth. The Deal Structuring team is organized into three product lines: Power, Gas, and Structured Energy. This model enables stronger collaboration, product rationalization, and closer alignment with commercial activities.
The Power Deal Structuring team currently comprises 14 professionals who lead the modelling and valuation of complex asset-backed transactions across European power markets. The selected candidate will contribute directly to the delivery of material power deals, working closely with originators, traders, and teams.
This position requires a professional who combines quantitative excellence with commercial insight and can manage complex stakeholder environments. In addition, the role offers opportunities to participate in customer meetings and to travel within Europe alongside originators when required.

Main Responsibilities
Commercial Structuring and Quantitative Modelling
The Deal Structurer will collaborate with the power business to support portfolio growth across Europe. The role carries accountability for valuation methodologies and risk assessment of complex transactions.
Core responsibilities include:
- Structuring and financially modelling complex power transactions
- Developing and maintaining valuation and risk models using Python and Excel
- Providing independent valuation views and constructive challenge to deal owners
- Supporting negotiation processes by restructuring non-standard transactions and proposing alternative commercial solutions
- Managing and extracting value from acquired structured positions
Stakeholder Engagement and Collaboration
The role involves close cooperation with internal stakeholders across Origination, Trading, Risk, Finance, and Credit. The Deal Structurer will:
- Represent the Deal Structuring function within the power business
- Build strong relationships with local and cross-functional teams
- Partner with traders and originators to design innovative structured products
- Maintain an outward mindset aligned with Shell’s One Team approach
Market Expertise and Advisory
Given Shell’s active presence across major European power markets, the successful candidate will provide specialized insight into:
- European power market structures and regulatory environments
- Valuation and risk assessment methodologies for structured energy contracts
- Market developments and emerging commercial opportunities
Candidate Background
Educational Background
Candidates are expected to hold a degree or qualification in a numerical or quantitative discipline. Advanced qualifications such as an MSc, CFA, CQF, ACA, or similar credentials are highly valued.
Professional Experience
The ideal candidate will demonstrate:
- Proven experience in deal structuring or quantitative analytics
- Exposure to European power, gas, or LNG markets
- Strong familiarity with structured asset and transaction valuation
- Experience leading individual initiatives or small teams in complex business environments
Exposure to the Italian power market is particularly desirable.
Technical and Functional Skills
Required Competencies
- Advanced programming skills in Python and Excel VBA
- Development and maintenance of high-quality financial models
- Strong understanding of quantitative finance theory and its application to gas and power derivatives
- Experience with risk management strategies related to structured transactions
- Fluency in English, with Italian or German considered advantageous
Additional Strengths
- Knowledge of corporate finance and accounting principles
- Commercial understanding of long-term commodity investments and associated risk drivers
- Experience coaching or mentoring junior colleagues
- CQF certification is considered beneficial
