Role Overview
The Shift Trader will join the UK Power Shift Trading team, part of Shell Energy Europe & Africa’s (SE-EA) European Power trading organization. This role operates within a 24-hour shift schedule covering weekends, bank holidays, and overnight operations. The team manages a leading portfolio that combines thermal generation, renewable energy (wind and solar), and algorithmically controlled battery storage. Shell Trading has pioneered algorithmic control of storage and aggregated generation in the UK balancing market and continues to lead in short-term optimization of physical assets.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
- Drive trading performance by identifying and executing opportunities to maximize P&L across the asset portfolio.
- Develop and implement analytical tools to enhance trading efficiency and decision-making, especially for renewable assets.
- Actively trade interconnector capacities across short-term, intra-day, and balancing markets.
- Utilize automated trading systems to respond swiftly to market fluctuations.
- Coordinate with internal desks, system operators, and functions to align strategies and manage exposure.
- Ensure compliance with all regulations, including REMIT, the Grid Code, and Shell policies.
Ideal Candidate Profile
Education & Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Finance, Economics, Engineering, or a related field.
- Strong quantitative and analytical skills with experience in trading and analytical platforms.
- Proven experience trading UK power on exchanges (e.g., EPEX) and managing assets in the UK Balancing Mechanism.
- In-depth knowledge of GB and European energy markets, including market drivers and regulations.
