Fraud & Identity Specialist (Contract)
Instacart is seeking a remote Fraud & Identity Specialist to help protect its marketplace by identifying suspicious activity, reviewing fraud-related cases, and supporting secure experiences for customers and shoppers across the platform.
This six-month contract position is ideal for professionals with experience in fraud operations, customer support, data review, or risk management who enjoy solving problems, working with data, and maintaining high attention to detail in a fast-paced environment.
Job Overview
As a Fraud & Identity Specialist, you’ll investigate suspicious activity, review customer appeals, analyze fraud patterns, and execute operational processes that help keep the Instacart platform secure. You’ll work with internal tools and data while maintaining confidentiality, accuracy, and excellent decision-making under changing operational conditions.
Key Responsibilities
- Review transactions and investigate suspicious or fraudulent activity.
- Identify fraud trends and patterns through operational investigations.
- Manage inbound customer appeal queues while meeting service expectations.
- Prioritize cases effectively using strong time management skills.
- Conduct live and historical data reviews with high accuracy.
- Execute operational workflows while maintaining attention to detail.
- Recognize opportunities to improve existing fraud prevention processes.
- Handle sensitive information with confidentiality and professionalism.
- Support platform safety by helping prevent fraud and account misuse.
Required Qualifications
- At least 1 year of professional experience in fraud operations, customer support, data processing, risk operations, or a similar field, or a strong academic background.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to make sound decisions in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- High attention to detail.
- Ability to manage confidential information responsibly.
- Positive attitude and adaptability in changing operational environments.
- Availability to work weekends and holidays when scheduled.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience using Zendesk or similar customer support platforms.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets.
- Understanding of gig economy platforms or marketplace operations.
- Previous fraud investigation or trust and safety experience.
Work Schedule
- 6-month contract.
- Approximately 40 hours per week.
- Hourly, non-exempt position.
- Additional hours may be available based on business needs.
- Weekend work required (1–2 assigned weekend days).
- Fully remote within the United States.
Compensation
- $23 per hour.
- Hourly compensation is consistent across eligible U.S. locations listed by the employer.
- Additional hours may be available as business needs require.
