Role Overview
Etsy is seeking a Staff Security Analyst to join its Threat Intelligence team. This role focuses on safeguarding the marketplace ecosystem through advanced fraud detection and prevention strategies. The analyst will lead complex investigations, support threat intelligence programs, and act as a key technical consultant for the Safety By Design initiatives. This position reports to the Senior Director of Engineering.
Candidates must be based in the United States. Preference may be given to those near Etsy’s Brooklyn Office Hub or the San Francisco Bay Area, with in-office attendance required once or twice per week, depending on proximity. Etsy provides flexible work modes to accommodate team needs.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Lead end-to-end fraud investigations, analyzing multiple data sources to detect and mitigate complex abuse patterns.
- Develop and enhance Etsy’s threat intelligence program, establishing processes for data collection, analysis, and dissemination.
- Serve as a technical consultant in the Safety By Design program, embedding fraud prevention controls in system architectures.
- Collaborate with Product and Engineering teams to translate investigation findings into actionable technical requirements.
- Provide subject matter expertise to cross-functional teams on fraud and threat mitigation.
- Lead incident response efforts for high-priority fraud events, coordinating multiple stakeholders for swift resolution.
- Maintain dashboards and reporting systems to track key risk metrics and emerging threats.
- Identify and implement innovative strategies to stay ahead of evolving trends in abuse and fraud.
Required Candidate Profile
Required Experience and Skills:
- 8+ years in fraud analysis, risk management, threat intelligence, or related fields, with at least 4 years in technical investigations.
- Strong SQL skills for data analysis and automation.
- Deep understanding of marketplace fraud schemes and common attack vectors.
- Experience with threat intelligence platforms and OSINT tools.
- Knowledge of data structures, APIs, and system architecture principles.
- Expertise in stakeholder management and cross-functional collaboration.
- Proven leadership in complex technical projects and mentoring team members.
- Familiarity with machine learning applications in abuse detection, graph databases, network analysis, and risk scoring systems.
- Background in incident response and rules engine implementation.
