Role Overview
The Fraud Enforcement Manager will play a critical role in Etsy’s account integrity and security initiatives. This position focuses on detecting and preventing account takeover (ATO) and fraud, minimizing losses, conducting in-depth investigations, improving appeals and remediation processes, and analyzing data to identify emerging risks. The role involves close collaboration with Customer Service, Product, Engineering, Data Science, and Operations teams to enhance security measures and overall customer experience.
Reporting to the Director of Account Integrity & Security, this position supports Etsy’s Trust & Safety mission and is open to candidates based in the United States. Work modes include Local Hybrid, Regional Hybrid, or fully Remote, depending on location.
Primary Responsibilities & Duties
Account Reviews & Investigations
- Conduct thorough investigations of accounts flagged for security or integrity concerns.
- Analyze sign-in activity, identity verification data, and user behavior to identify fraudulent activity.
Trend Analysis & Insights
- Identify emerging fraud trends and vulnerabilities through data analysis using SQL and Looker.
- Translate insights into actionable recommendations for detection strategies and operational improvements.
Quality Assurance & Measurement
- Support the development and implementation of QA frameworks for human review and automated fraud detection models.
- Provide continuous feedback to optimize the accuracy and efficiency of fraud prevention measures.
Machine Learning Operations Support
- Collaborate with Data Science and Engineering teams to optimize fraud detection models.
- Offer operational insights and subject matter expertise to improve model performance.
New Product Risk Assessment
- Advise on potential risks for new product launches and initiatives.
- Support the design and implementation of controls to mitigate fraud exposure.
Operational Efficiency & Knowledge Sharing
- Identify opportunities for workflow improvements and process automation.
- Document fraud patterns, investigation techniques, and best practices.
- Provide training and guidance to new team members and frontline investigators.
Ideal Candidate for the Role
Required Qualifications
- 3+ years of experience in account integrity, ATO investigation, or fraud prevention in e-commerce, payments, or online marketplaces.
- Proven ability to investigate complex fraud cases and identify evolving tactics.
- Strong analytical skills, with experience in SQL and analytics platforms such as Looker or Tableau.
- Excellent communication skills to present complex findings clearly to diverse audiences.
- Proactive, detail-oriented, and able to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Understanding of machine learning concepts and experience contributing to model improvement.
- Ability to travel to outsourced partner sites as needed.
