About the Role
The Department of the Army is seeking qualified candidates for the Security Assistant (Title 32) positionwithin the Illinois National Guard. This exempt service position supports the IL DCSOPS and involves assisting in the personnel security clearance process. The role is essential for ensuring the suitability and fitness of individuals for sensitive and non-sensitive positions in accordance with Army standards.

Core Duties and Responsibilities
The Security Assistant will perform a variety of administrative and clerical duties related to personnel security, including:
- Reviewing requests for completeness and accuracy, coordinating with Security Managers and unit points of contact.
- Ensuring investigative data and questionnaires are accurate and complete.
- Maintaining investigative files and ensuring systems reflect adjudicative determinations.
- Submitting and tracking personnel security clearance requests for civilian, contractor, and military personnel.
- Assisting in suitability adjudications for fitness and suitability determinations.
- Monitoring the status of ongoing investigations and reinvestigations for secret and top-secret clearances.
- Providing written and oral communication to adjudicators regarding minor derogatory information.
- Verifying security clearances for personnel traveling on Temporary Duty (TDY).
Required Candidate Profile
Eligibility:
- Must be a member of the Illinois National Guard at rank SPC up to SSG.
- Open to current members, applicants willing to join, and transitioning military personnel.
Qualifications:
- General Experience: Experience in clerical or administrative work demonstrating ability to acquire required knowledge and skills.
- Specialized Experience:
- GS-07: 12 months of experience at the GS-06 level performing office functions independently with minimal supervision.
- GS-06: 12 months of experience at the GS-05 level performing clerical duties and using computer/automation systems.
- GS-05: 12 months of experience at the GS-04 level performing clerical duties and general office functions.
Education:
- Education beyond the second year (60 semester hours) may be credited toward specialized experience. Official transcripts are required.
