Role Summary
The Quality Director provides strategic regulatory and quality oversight for a designated division, including specialty and regional laboratories. This leader guides Quality Managers across assigned sites while serving as a central authority on quality systems, regulatory interpretation, and issue resolution.
In addition, the position leads enterprise quality initiatives, strengthens inspection readiness, and reinforces a culture rooted in accountability and continuous improvement. By aligning quality strategy with operational objectives, the Quality Director ensures laboratories consistently meet accreditation standards and comply fully with CMS, CAP, ISO 15189, NYS CLEP, and other governing requirements.
Core Areas of Responsibility
Quality Leadership and Governance
The Quality Director builds and develops a high-performing quality management team. Through close collaboration with operational leaders, the role secures stakeholder alignment and drives structured business process improvement initiatives.
Furthermore, the director oversees internal audits, complaint investigations, inspection readiness activities, and continuous improvement programs. Effective communication and structured escalation protocols ensure that quality system concerns reach appropriate leadership levels promptly.
Regulatory Compliance and Accreditation
This role provides expert interpretation of regulatory and accreditation standards, including CLIA, CAP, ISO 15189, and additional state and federal requirements across multiple jurisdictions.
The director ensures that complaints, audit findings, and nonconforming events receive complete and effective responses. Outcomes related to root cause analysis, corrective actions, and effectiveness checks are continuously monitored to prevent recurrence and strengthen system controls.
Process Improvement and Risk Management
Oversight of corrective action plans, change control processes, and nonconforming event management forms a core element of the position. The director applies structured methodologies to risk assessment and process optimization while remaining informed on evolving industry standards and quality system practices.
Training programs are developed and reinforced to ensure consistent application of Labcorp quality policies and procedures across laboratories.
Collaboration and External Representation
The Quality Director coordinates communication among laboratories and provides guidance where quality issues arise. In addition, the role collaborates with fellow quality leaders, customers, and cross-functional stakeholders to support informed decision-making.
As a recognized subject matter expert, the director represents the organization in external associations and professional forums.
Ideal Candidate Profile
Required Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Chemistry, Medical Technology, or a related discipline
- Minimum of seven years of experience within Quality Management Systems
- At least five years of leadership experience
- Demonstrated expertise in CLIA, CAP, ISO 15189, and additional regulatory standards, including AL, MD, FL, PA, TN, COLA, and the Joint Commission
Preferred Credentials
- Experience in coaching and developing diverse teams while fostering professional growth
- Quality certification, such as Six Sigma Green Belt or higher, ASQ certification, or auditor certification
- Background in Lean or Six Sigma methodologies
Technical and Professional Competencies
- Strong proficiency in risk management, change control, root cause analysis, and nonconforming event management
- Advanced leadership capabilities, including decision making, problem solving, negotiation, data analysis, and influence
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including presentation and public speaking
- Customer-focused mindset
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and related software
- Familiarity with Smartsheet and MediaLab is advantageous
Compensation and Benefits
The annual salary range for this position is $110,000 to $140,000. Final compensation reflects the candidate’s qualifications, experience, certifications, internal equity considerations, and market data.
Employees scheduled to work 20 hours or more per week are eligible for comprehensive benefits, including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short- and long-term disability coverage, 401(k), paid or flexible time off, tuition reimbursement, and an employee stock purchase plan.
Employees working fewer than 20 hours per week may participate in the 401(k) plan. Those on a 7-on, 7-off schedule receive all listed benefits except paid or flexible time off.
