Role Overview
The Bank Support team seeks a Back End Software Engineer who approaches engineering challenges with discipline and creativity. This role centers on designing, building, and refining resilient and scalable systems that support critical business functions.
The successful candidate contributes to continuous delivery practices, works within agile frameworks, and demonstrates strong communication skills while collaborating across technical and business teams. Moreover, the engineer plays a key role in sustaining production stability and driving long-term system improvements.
Core Areas of Responsibility
System Reliability and Production Support
The engineer ensures that production systems remain stable, responsive, and highly available. Responsibilities include monitoring environments, responding to alerts, participating in on-call rotations, and addressing incidents with urgency and precision.
In addition, the role requires investigating the root causes of production disruptions and implementing corrective actions that prevent recurrence.
Technical Strategy and Infrastructure Optimization
The position involves identifying gaps in current technical strategies and proposing effective solutions. The engineer evaluates existing frameworks to uncover defects and performance bottlenecks, then recommends enhancements across infrastructure, applications, and operational processes.
Furthermore, the role includes supervising system availability and response times while coordinating complex infrastructure changes.
Application Development and Continuous Improvement
The engineer delivers development work aligned with IT-driven change requests, particularly those involving non-functional improvements. Using adapted coding practices, the individual supports agile delivery and maintains quality standards across the software lifecycle.
Experience with SDLC processes is essential, as the role spans design, development, testing, deployment, and post-production support.
Cross-Team Collaboration and Knowledge Sharing
The engineer acts as a liaison with internal teams and external vendors during production incidents. At the same time, the role includes coaching colleagues, participating in code reviews, and contributing to documentation that supports ongoing maintenance and knowledge transfer.

Education and Professional Experience
- Minimum of five years of back-end development experience across multiple projects with increasing responsibility
- Proven experience in data integration using modern patterns such as batch processing, APIs, web services, and event messaging
- Strong background in database design and development, including MS SQL and PostgreSQL
- Experience building services using Java, Node.js, .NET Core, ASP.NET, C#, or comparable technologies
- Familiarity with cloud environments such as Azure or AWS, including microservices architecture
- Exposure to Pivotal Cloud Foundry or Azure Kubernetes Service
- Working knowledge of batch job schedulers
- Solid understanding of agile methodology and the software development lifecycle
Preferred Capabilities
- Familiarity with continuous integration practices, automated testing, and test-driven development
- Experience within a financial services environment
- Interest in emerging technologies and their business implications
- Exposure to React and modern JavaScript frameworks
Compensation and Benefits
For the referenced location of Waterloo, Ontario, the expected salary range is CAD 86,100 to CAD 136,100, depending on market conditions, experience, qualifications, and job expertise.
In addition to base compensation, employees may participate in incentive programs tied to individual and organizational performance.
