Core Responsibilities

The position involves:

  • Planning and laying out shop maintenance work for self and lower-graded mechanics.

  • Providing input on personnel matters such as performance appraisals, awards, and leave schedules.

Employment Conditions

Applicants must be, or be willing to become, a member of the Illinois National Guard before appointment. The position requires wearing the military uniform and adherence to all National Guard service standards.

Qualifications and Experience

Military Grades: Enlisted – not exceeding the rank of Master Sergeant (MSgt).

General Experience: Candidates must demonstrate experience in mechanical maintenance, use of technical manuals, and proficiency with tools and equipment used in troubleshooting, testing, and repairing mechanical systems.

Specialized Experience (WG-11 Level): Applicants must show hands-on experience in removing, replacing, adjusting, and installing mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic parts on powered support systems. Strong knowledge of system interrelationships, repair manuals, and schematic interpretation is required.

Experience gained through volunteer work in technical or mechanical settings (e.g., AmeriCorps, Peace Corps) will also be considered if relevant.
