The Role at a Glance

As a Senior Mechanical Engineer, the candidate will be responsible for leading the design, development, and optimization of mechanical systems supporting data center operations. The role demands a strategic mindset and the ability to collaborate cross-functionally to drive technical excellence from concept to execution.

This position requires domestic and international travel of up to 50%, allowing engineers to oversee critical projects globally.

What You’ll Do

  • Define mechanical system design requirements for multiple data center projects from inception to delivery.
  • Manage design documentation, ensuring alignment between Google’s standards and the Engineer of Record (EOR).
  • Collaborate with design and construction teams on HVAC, mechanical distribution, and infrastructure improvements.
  • Oversee mechanical cooling plants, fire suppression systems, and fuel/water systems for mission-critical environments.
  • Resolve complex mechanical or operational challenges at the site level through data-driven solutions.
  • Ensure all designs comply with local, national, and international building codes, as well as Google’s high engineering standards.

Education & Experience

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering (or equivalent practical experience).
  • 12+ years of experience in mission-critical facility design and construction.
  • Proven expertise in HVAC systems, mechanical infrastructure, and commissioning processes.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Engineering, Business, or related field.
  • Professional Engineering (PE) license.
  • Experience with large-scale mechanical cooling, fire suppression, and fuel systems.
  • Familiarity with modular design, tolerance analysis, and international building codes.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Base Salary: $214,000–$302,000 USD
  • Additional: Bonus, equity, and a comprehensive Google benefits package
