Overview of the Opportunity

The Graduate Shift Manager role introduces a structured development path in a high-volume manufacturing environment. The position offers deep exposure to production systems, people leadership, and operations management. The organisation provides an intensive training period that spans one to two years. Progression depends on individual performance and learning pace.

Once the training phase is completed, the graduate will advance to a full Shift Manager position. They will then join the core production management team, which is responsible for maintaining operational excellence.

What the Role Covers

Operational Training and Progression

The graduate gains hands-on experience across production lines, packing, synergy teams, and maintenance functions. This phase builds a strong foundation in production workflows, real-time problem-solving, and leadership in a fast-paced setting.

Leadership and Daily Operations

Shift Managers oversee teams across Packing, Production, Synergy, and Maintenance. They guide shift employees to meet key business targets related to quality, output, OEE, labour efficiency, safety, and budget control. They also act as coverage for the Plant Manager and provide operational support when required.

Core Responsibilities

The role includes a wide range of operational and people management duties.

  • Lead the shift team with the Line Lead to hit daily production and packing KPIs.
  • Set weekly performance targets for the team.
  • Protect high standards of product quality, hygiene, and integrity in line with food safety benchmarks.
  • Uphold Good Manufacturing Practice and Good Housekeeping Practice.
  • Track and manage costs in accordance with the approved budget.
  • Ensure safe working behaviour among team members, contractors, and visitors.
  • Train, mentor, and supervise teams to foster practical, quality-driven work.
  • Conduct Performance Development Reviews twice a year.
  • Apply systems and processes that reduce customer complaints.
  • Maintain positive relationships and clear communication across departments.
  • Drive improvements in output, quality, and cost efficiency.
  • Oversee equipment and work area maintenance to secure optimum performance.
  • Support initiatives that enhance employee engagement and process efficiency.
  • Coordinate with QA, QC, logistics, technical, and maintenance teams for smooth operations.
  • Complete Internal Controls responsibilities assigned by the Internal Controller.
  • Work with HR on employee relations matters.

Candidate Background

Education

A minimum 2.1 honours degree in Food Science, Food Technology, or a related field.

Skills and Experience

  • Prior experience in food, healthcare, or pharmaceutical manufacturing is valuable.
  • Familiarity with MES, SAP, or other manufacturing systems is desirable.
  • Strong understanding of international GMP and GHP standards.
  • Knowledge of quality and food safety legislation is an advantage.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft technologies and SAP.
  • Strong analytical thinking with proven troubleshooting ability.
  • Excellent communication skills.
