Position Overview
The Kansas City VA Medical Center is seeking a full-time Geriatrics Physician to join its Geriatrics and Extended Care (GEC) team. This position focuses on providing comprehensive care to elderly veterans, supporting mid-level providers, and contributing to clinical and educational programs in collaboration with partner institutions.

Primary Responsibilities
Patient-Centered Care & Clinical Duties
- Deliver high-quality medical care as part of the Geriatric PACT (Patient Aligned Care Team), emphasizing collaborative, team-based care for veterans.
- Evaluate patients, monitor changes in physical and mental status, and document all encounters accurately.
- Coordinate care with internal departments and external providers to ensure continuity and quality.
Education & Mentorship
- Participate in resident and medical student education in collaboration with the University of Kansas Medical Center and the University of Missouri-Kansas City.
- Offer guidance and supervision to mid-level providers and other team members.
Program Improvement & Committees
- Contribute to quality improvement initiatives and programmatic enhancements within GEC.
- Participate in hospital committees, departmental in-services, and continuous peer review processes to enhance service delivery.
Operational Support
- No weekend coverage or in-person call responsibilities; rotating coverage for critical lab value communication may be required.
- Maintain credentials, participate in ongoing professional development, and engage in organizational improvement projects.
Desired Candidate Profile
Education & Licensure
- Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) from an accredited institution.
- Full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in any U.S. state, territory, or the District of Columbia.
- Residency training approved by the VA in an accredited core specialty program leading to eligibility for board certification.
- Board certification in Geriatrics or completion of the Geriatric Scholars program.
Qualifications & Requirements
- U.S. Citizenship required; non-citizens may be considered if qualified citizens cannot be recruited.
- Proficiency in spoken and written English.
- Ability to meet physical requirements, including lifting 15–44 pounds, standing/walking for 3–5 hours, and fine motor coordination.
- Compliance with pre-employment drug testing, background investigation, and seasonal influenza vaccination program.

Compensation & Benefits
- Salary: $250,000 – $300,000 per year, determined through formal pay-setting.
- Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP): Eligible for up to $200,000 in student loan repayment for qualified candidates.
- Paid Time Off: 50–55 days annually, including annual leave, sick leave, federal holidays, and possible CME leave.
- Retirement: Federal pension with 5-year vesting and federal 401K with up to 5% VA contributions.
- Insurance: Health, vision, dental, life, and long-term care plans.
- CME Reimbursement: Up to $1,000 per year for full-time, board-certified physicians.
- Malpractice Coverage: Provided with tail coverage.
