Position Overview

The Professor (Associate/Assistant) will educate, connect, and empower leaders and practitioners to navigate the complex security and climate dynamics of the Arctic. This role combines academic rigor, research excellence, and applied engagement with policymakers, military personnel, indigenous communities, and international allies.

Key Focus Areas

  1. Arctic Security & Climate Education
    • Develop and deliver executive education content that sparks meaningful discussion, reflection, and practical application of learning.
    • Facilitate seminars, workshops, and courses designed to address Arctic and climate security issues.
  2. Research & Policy Contributions
    • Conduct original research on Arctic policy, security, and climate resilience.
    • Publish in respected journals, anthologies, and books to advance scholarly and policy discourse.
  3. Capacity Building & Partnerships
    • Support U.S. and international fellows by fostering inclusive, respectful learning environments.
    • Contribute expertise to distinguished visitor engagements and strategic dialogues.
  4. Digital & Executive Education Delivery
    • Manage and deliver both in-person and online courses and workshops.
    • Assess the effectiveness of educational initiatives to boost program outcomes.
  5. Institutional Support
    • Contribute to the center’s mission by performing administrative and operational duties.
    • Collaborate across teams to strengthen organizational performance and outreach.

Candidate Profile

Education Requirements

  • A degree in education or a subject-matter field relevant to Arctic security studies (or a combination of education and experience that provides equivalent expertise).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated expertise in:
    • Incorporating indigenous perspectives and First Nations initiatives.
    • Understanding economic drivers of Arctic communities.
    • Addressing human dimensions of climate science, fisheries, and wildlife management.
    • Exploring adaptation, resiliency, and subsistence-based lifeways in rural Arctic communities.
  • Experience in teaching, facilitating executive education, or delivering training to diverse audiences.
  • Strong publication record in relevant academic or policy fields.
