Role Overview
The Materials Examiner and Identifier plays a vital role in ensuring accurate identification, classification, and handling of various materials, components, and equipment. This position supports warehouse operations and contributes to the overall efficiency and reliability of material management within the DLA Distribution Susquehanna facility.
Key Areas
Material Examination & Verification
- Examine, identify, and verify a wide variety of materials, equipment, parts, and commodities.
- Sort and classify items by stock number, size, classification, and condition.
- Use technical manuals to ensure accurate identification of materials.
- Determine repairability, non-repairability, and cost feasibility for items.
Record Keeping & Reporting
- Initiate records documenting discrepancies and defects identified during inspections.
- Maintain accurate documentation to support operational efficiency and compliance.
Equipment & Handling Operations
- Operate forklifts and other material handling equipment, including loads up to 15,000 lbs.
- Relocate, load, unload, and move materials efficiently while ensuring safety.
Preferred Candidate
Required Qualifications
- Ability to perform the duties of a Materials Examiner and Identifier under standard supervision.
- Physical capability to lift to 40 lbs and operate material handling equipment.
- Experience may include paid or unpaid work, including volunteer service that demonstrates competency.
- Must be a U.S. citizen.
- Eligible for a Secret security clearance and able to pass a drug test.
Preferred Experience
- Familiarity with warehouse operations in a mechanized or automated environment.
- Knowledge of hazardous materials handling and safety compliance.
- Experience with documentation and reporting of discrepancies in inventory.
Working Conditions & Physical Requirements
- Warehouse environment with exposure to high noise, dust, and moving equipment.
- Frequent standing, walking, bending, stooping, and handling heavy or bulky items.
- May be exposed to hazardous materials, chemicals, or radiation during inspection and handling.
- The role requires readiness for potential emergency deployment as an Expeditionary Civilian (Emergency Essential).
