About the Role

Autodesk is seeking a Principal User Experience Designer to drive the evolution of its platform, hosting blogs, forums, inspiration galleries, and educational resources. Reporting to the Senior Manager of Experience Design for Marketing Experiences, this role will shape the user journey for both existing and new users, particularly those discovering Autodesk products through AI-powered tools.

The ideal candidate brings a strategic mindset, strong critical thinking, and the ability to collaborate effectively across teams to deliver innovative solutions that enhance customer experiences.

Main Responsibilities

  • Lead experience design initiatives, defining strategy at the intersection of business needs, customer expectations, and technical possibilities.
  • Collaborate closely with product management, engineering, and data science to explore, plan, validate, and implement solutions.
  • Produce clear, compelling design artifacts—including wireframes, task flows, and presentations—to communicate challenges and proposed solutions.
  • Conduct customer research and usability testing throughout the design lifecycle, refining solutions in collaboration with users and cross-functional teams.
  • Act as a thought leader, facilitating cross-functional collaboration to solve complex design challenges and ensure alignment across the organization.

Required Experience & Skills

  • 8+ years in UX/product design and customer research.
  • 4+ years designing community or social experiences.
  • Proven experience designing AI-powered interfaces, including conversational UI and intelligent content discovery.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams through problem definition, analysis, and solution design.
  • Expertise in creating scalable systems supporting diverse user journeys and content types.
  • Advanced prototyping skills, including the use of AI-powered design tools for conceptual models, interactive prototypes, and technical documentation.
  • Exceptional communication and storytelling skills to distill complex ideas into compelling narratives for stakeholders at all levels.
  • Experience conducting customer research via interviews, contextual inquiry, usability testing, and other methods.
  • Passion for mentoring and developing other designers.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in interaction design or a related field.
  • Experience designing enterprise software, SaaS, cloud-based, or multi-channel experiences.
  • Familiarity with Agile software design methodologies.
  • Prior experience with Autodesk or competitive design products.
