Position Overview

Volkswagen is seeking a Senior Data Engineer to join its team in Lisbon. In this role, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and implementing IT applications and software components. You will define system interfaces and be involved in system integration and testing, with a particular focus on autonomous vehicle technology. This position is a full-time contract.

Key Focus Areas

  1. Data Engineering for Autonomous Vehicles: You will be responsible for creating and maintaining data pipelines using modern cloud infrastructure. Your work will involve analyzing, aggregating, and visualizing data to support technical roadmap decisions for our future trucks.
  2. Data Analysis and Visualization: You will create dashboards and reports to support the brand’s self-driving systems, tracking and improving key performance indicators (KPIs). Analyze, extract, and aggregate data from a fleet of autonomous vehicles, applying machine learning (ML) and artificial intelligence (AI) methods to enhance situational assessment and assistance.
  3. Cloud-Native Services & DevOps: You will utilize cloud-native services to optimize your daily workflow and improve your pipelines, tooling, and processes. Experience with AWS for data engineering and ML is a significant advantage.
  4. End-to-End Responsibility You will take full ownership of the systems you build, working closely with various departments to present your results. You will serve as the primary interface between data engineering, software development, and key stakeholders.
  5. Mentorship and Collaboration: You will advise your team and other teams on data engineering and ML/AI topics within the autonomous vehicle space. Your collaborative and team-oriented mindset will be crucial for success.
  6. Problem-Solving & Innovation: You will take the initiative to solve problems and overcome roadblocks. Volkswagen needs a results-oriented individual who is eager to learn new technologies and find innovative, pragmatic solutions.

Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate must be a proactive and experienced professional with a strong sense of quality and responsibility, possessing excellent communication and teamwork skills, and be able to work effectively in a dynamic and agile environment.

Education Requirements

A bachelor’s degree in a related field or comparable job expertise is required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • At least five years of experience in data engineering.
  • Hands-on experience with the analysis of real-world telematics data.
  • Proficiency in relevant programming languages, particularly Python.
  • Experience in applying and understanding data engineering patterns and ML algorithms.
  • Familiarity with dashboard creation and data visualization.
  • Experience with AWS for data engineering and machine learning.
  • Experience in DevOps and agile methodologies.
  • Experience in the automotive industry is a plus.
  • Excellent communication skills in English, both written and spoken.
