Senior Cloud Engineer – Regulated Database Platforms (Remote)
ClickHouse is hiring a Senior Cloud Engineer to help design, deploy, and secure database platforms for government and enterprise customers operating across cloud, hybrid, and on-premises environments.
You will join a specialized engineering team responsible for extending ClickHouse Cloud into regulated and mission-critical environments, including systems with restricted or no internet connectivity. The role combines distributed systems engineering, Kubernetes, infrastructure automation, database performance, security, and compliance.
Job Overview
As a Senior Cloud Engineer, you will architect highly available and scalable ClickHouse Cloud deployments for sensitive workloads. You will collaborate with Security, Dataplane, ClickHouse Core, and Infrastructure teams to support frameworks including NIST, FedRAMP, Protected B, and IRAP.
The position requires hands-on experience building fault-tolerant systems, automating infrastructure, managing containerized database platforms, and solving complex reliability, security, and performance challenges.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop a highly available, scalable, and secure ClickHouse Cloud platform for regulated and mission-critical environments.
- Build deployment automation for cloud, hybrid, on-premises, and disconnected environments.
- Partner with Dataplane and ClickHouse Core teams to maintain software parity with the existing cloud platform.
- Solve scaling, reliability, performance, and operational challenges in regulated environments.
- Deploy and operate ClickHouse Cloud on Kubernetes and other containerized platforms.
- Implement high availability, replication, backup, and recovery capabilities.
- Develop and maintain Helm charts, Kubernetes operators, manifests, and related deployment tooling.
- Create repeatable automation for building, scaling, operating, and troubleshooting infrastructure components.
- Optimize database performance and storage architecture for government cloud, hybrid, and on-premises deployments.
- Integrate authentication, encryption, and access control mechanisms.
- Prepare technical documentation covering system architecture, security, and compliance requirements.
- Troubleshoot database performance, security, infrastructure, and operational issues.
- Automate deployment and lifecycle management using Terraform, Ansible, or CI/CD pipelines.
Required Qualifications
- 72+ months of relevant software development experience building and operating scalable, fault-tolerant, distributed systems.
- Experience with ClickHouse or relational databases such as PostgreSQL and MySQL.
- Experience with NoSQL databases such as MongoDB or Cassandra.
- Proficiency with Kubernetes technologies including Helm, Kustomize, operators, Istio, or service mesh platforms.
- Experience with containerized deployments using Docker, Kubernetes, OpenShift, or similar technologies.
- Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, GCP, AWS GovCloud, Azure Government, or on-premises equivalents.
- Proficiency in Go or Python for infrastructure automation and systems integration.
- Strong production debugging and problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate across engineering teams.
- Strong commitment to efficiency, availability, scalability, security, and data governance.
- High levels of ownership, accountability, and responsibility.
Preferred Experience
- Experience working in secure, regulated, or restricted network environments.
- Experience designing or operating air-gapped infrastructure.
- Experience deploying containerized systems in regulated government or enterprise environments.
