The position involves designing, building, testing, and operating production software across multiple layers of Stripe’s technology stack. You will collaborate with stakeholders across the company, contribute to technical roadmaps, and solve complex issues in large-scale distributed environments.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, build, test, and ship reliable backend software and infrastructure.
• Create strong experiences for internal engineering teams and external Stripe users.
• Contribute to roadmap planning, technical prioritization, and project execution.
• Work collaboratively with engineers, product partners, and stakeholders across multiple teams.
• Debug production issues across services and different layers of the technology stack.
• Build scalable systems that support reliability, availability, efficiency, and performance.
• Improve developer workflows, internal platforms, and infrastructure capabilities.
• Contribute to systems supporting compute, networking, distributed caching, data platforms, search, analytics, or service development.
• Help maintain a high engineering standard for production systems.
• Take ownership of complex projects with a high degree of autonomy and responsibility.

• Core Infrastructure: Build foundational compute, networking, document database, caching, and high-assurance systems.
• Developer Infrastructure: Improve the tools and workflows used by Stripe engineers to build and test software.

Required Qualifications

• Between 24 and 144+ months of professional, hands-on software development experience.
• Strong software engineering fundamentals and interest in infrastructure or distributed systems.
• Ability to write high-quality production code in languages such as Go, Java, C, or C++.
• Experience designing well-structured algorithms and working with commonly used data structures.
• Hands-on experience contributing to or building large-scale distributed systems.
• Strong collaboration skills across technical workstreams.
• Ability to represent user and customer needs in technical discussions and decision-making.
• Comfort operating with significant autonomy, ownership, and responsibility.
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-moving and highly technical environment.

• Experience improving the end-to-end performance of distributed systems.

Work Arrangement

• Full-time position.
• Remote work is available within the United States.
• A remote employee must generally live at least 35 miles or 56 kilometers from a Stripe office.
• Remote employees may attend company meetings, on-sites, events, or team gatherings when appropriate.
• Office-based employees are generally expected to spend at least 50% of each month in their assigned office or working with users.
• Stripe does not cover relocation expenses for moving to a remote location.

Compensation and Benefits

The annual US base salary range for this position is $156,800 to $235,200. The final range is determined during the interview process based on experience, qualifications, career level, and location.
