Director of Revenue & CoGS Accounting
Twilio is seeking an experienced Director of Revenue & CoGS Accounting to lead its global revenue accounting operations in a remote-first environment. This leadership role is responsible for guiding revenue recognition, accounts receivable, cost of goods sold accounting, financial controls, and operational accounting processes that support a rapidly evolving global technology business.
You will partner with finance, product, enterprise technology, go-to-market, billing, and executive leadership teams to ensure accounting operations remain scalable, compliant, and aligned with Twilio’s long-term business strategy.
Job Overview
As Director of Revenue & CoGS Accounting, you will define the strategic direction of global revenue operations while ensuring financial reporting accurately reflects complex commercial activities. You will oversee accounting operations, revenue automation initiatives, ERP workflows, internal controls, audit readiness, and compliance while leading a high-performing global accounting organization.
This position is designed for a finance leader with deep expertise in public company accounting, SaaS revenue recognition, operational excellence, and large-scale accounting systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the global Revenue, Accounts Receivable, and CoGS accounting functions.
- Provide strategic oversight of revenue accounting operations, journal entry processes, reconciliations, and financial reporting accuracy.
- Develop scalable accounting processes that support evolving business models and product offerings.
- Lead ERP workflow improvements and revenue automation initiatives involving platforms such as Oracle RMCS and Zuora Revenue.
- Partner with Product, Go-To-Market, Billing, FP&A, Technical Accounting, IT, and enterprise technology teams.
- Evaluate complex customer contracts and non-standard accounting scenarios while ensuring compliance with accounting guidance and company policies.
- Drive variance analysis and provide financial insights that explain business performance.
- Collaborate with Technical Accounting and SEC Reporting teams to support disclosures, accounting documentation, and audit activities.
- Own the SOX control framework for revenue-related processes and strengthen internal controls as the business evolves.
- Lead, mentor, and develop a global accounting organization focused on operational excellence and continuous improvement.
- Identify opportunities for automation, process optimization, and scalable financial operations.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related discipline.
- Minimum 144 months of progressive accounting experience.
- At least 72 months of specialized experience focused on revenue accounting.
- Minimum 96 months of experience leading and developing management-level accounting teams.
- Expert knowledge of ASC 606, deferred revenue accounting, and Cost of Goods Sold accounting within SaaS or usage-based business models.
- Strong experience with enterprise ERP platforms such as Oracle or SAP.
- Experience using specialized revenue accounting systems including Oracle RMCS or Zuora Revenue.
- Ability to communicate complex accounting concepts clearly to executive leadership.
- Experience evaluating complex and non-standard accounting transactions while balancing compliance and business objectives.
- Expert understanding of SOX compliance, internal controls, and audit frameworks.
- Strong analytical, leadership, communication, and strategic decision-making skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- CPA or equivalent professional accounting certification.
- Previous experience with a Big Four public accounting firm.
- Experience supporting organizations transitioning from traditional SaaS to consumption-based or usage-based revenue models.
- Background within CPaaS or telecommunications industries.

- Approximately 10% travel for team collaboration and business meetings.

Compensation and Benefits
Salary varies based on location.
- Colorado, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Vermont, Washington D.C.: $188,240 – $253,300 annually.
- New York, New Jersey, Washington State, California (outside the San Francisco Bay Area): $199,280 – $249,100 annually.
- San Francisco Bay Area: $221,360 – $276,700 annually.
