Position Summary

The Training Technician serves as a key education and training specialist, coordinating, managing, and evaluating formal military training programs for officer and enlisted personnel. The role ensures that all assigned units meet mandated training objectives while remaining compliant with National Guard Bureau guidance and federal regulations.

Core Responsibilities

Training Coordination and Administration

The technician schedules initial skills, refresher, proficiency, and mission essential training programs. This includes verifying eligibility, prerequisites, and course availability while validating training and travel orders for regulatory accuracy.

Operational Training Support

The role supports unit readiness by coordinating ancillary, wartime, and unit training requirements. It also manages formal schools and Mission Essential Skills Training programs aligned with wing objectives.

Resource and Budget Oversight

The technician serves as a resource advisor for training funding, analyzes annual training guidance, and adjusts resources in response to mission priorities and budget changes.

Program Evaluation and Reporting

Responsibilities include evaluating training effectiveness, identifying gaps, and preparing detailed reports, summaries, and briefings on training status and resource utilization.

Instruction and Curriculum Development

The position involves developing lesson plans, instructional materials, and assessment tools. Additionally, the technician conducts classroom instruction, supports distance learning, administers examinations, and maintains accountability for testing materials.

Experience Requirements

General Experience

Specialized Experience

GS 9 Level
Applicants must have at least 1 year of experience equivalent to the GS-7 level, demonstrating knowledge of Air Force or Army education and training programs. Experience must include curriculum development, training evaluations, instructional methods, scheduling training events, counseling techniques, reporting practices, and practical communication skills.

GS 7 Level
Applicants must have at least 1 year of experience equivalent to the GS-6 level, with exposure to military education and training programs, instructional techniques, training administration, and participation in training or conference events.

Paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer service, is fully credited if it meets qualification requirements.

Education Requirements

This position does not allow substitution of education for experience. All qualification requirements must be met through demonstrated expertise.

Employment Conditions

Appointment to this position requires compliance with federal employment suitability standards, including background investigation and selective service registration where applicable. The role may require irregular work hours, temporary duty travel, and emergency response availability as designated essential personnel.
