The Opportunity
AtkinsRéalis is seeking a visionary Project Director to spearhead the consultant-side delivery of the UAE High-Speed Rail (HSR) Intercity Project – Phase 1, connecting Abu Dhabi to Dubai. This position demands strategic oversight, technical expertise, and exceptional leadership across one of the region’s most ambitious transportation projects.
The Project Director will act as the central point of coordination between internal and external delivery teams, overseeing design reviews, program management, and site supervision across civil, systems, and rolling stock components.
What the Role Involves
Strategic & Program Leadership
- Lead the complete lifecycle of the HSR programme — from planning and design to construction, commissioning, and performance.
- Align delivery with client objectives, UAE development visions, and international standards.
- Represent AtkinsRéalis in client boards and steering committees, ensuring full strategic alignment.
Financial & Commercial Management
- Own and manage the program’s P&L, ensuring financial transparency and performance.
- Oversee budgeting, cost control, and change management.
- Lead contract administration, claims, and risk management strategies.
Construction Oversight
- Supervise major civil and systems packages across Abu Dhabi and Dubai.
- Monitor contractor performance and ensure adherence to HSE, quality, and delivery standards.
- Coordinate multiple stakeholders to maintain project momentum and accountability.
Risk, Governance & Reporting
- Establish a robust project governance framework.
- Lead regular risk reviews and drive mitigation strategies.
- Ensure timely, transparent reporting to both client and internal leadership.
Stakeholder & Client Relations
- Serve as the primary liaison with UAE Rail, government authorities, and contractors.
- Resolve complex interface challenges through strategic decision-making and collaboration.
- Build long-term partnerships and maintain trust with all key stakeholders.
Innovation & Team Leadership
- Champion digital innovation through BIM and smart delivery systems.
- Mentor senior leadership teams, promoting a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
- Foster knowledge-sharing and professional development across the organization.
Ideal Candidate Profile
Education & Experience:
- Bachelor’s in Engineering, Construction Management, or related field (Master’s or Chartered Engineer preferred).
- Minimum 20 years’ experience in major infrastructure delivery, including 5+ years in high-speed rail (>250 km/h).
- Strong knowledge of project management frameworks, contract law, and stakeholder engagement.
Core Skills:
- Strategic programme management and leadership.

- Excellent communication, negotiation, and problem-solving abilities.
- Proficiency with digital project management tools and risk management methodologies.
