Main Duties
The Postdoctoral Research Associate will actively collaborate with mathematicians, computer scientists, and domain experts to advance ORNL’s mission. Core responsibilities include:
- Developing and analyzing new computational methodologies tailored to large-scale scientific applications.
- Designing hybrid, structure-preserving, and machine learning-based methods for kinetic equations.
- Supporting numerical technologies for applications in gas dynamics, plasma physics, and radiation transport.
- Disseminating research findings through peer-reviewed publications, technical reports, seminars, and conferences.
- Engaging with professional organizations and contributing to the broader scientific community.
What We are Looking For
Required Qualifications
- PhD in Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, Computational Science, or a closely related field (earned within the last five years).
Preferred Background
- Expertise in one or more of the following:
- Mathematical methods for kinetic or fluid equations
- Multiscale problems and model reduction
- Machine learning frameworks applied to computational science
- Implementation of scalable numerical algorithms on HPC architectures
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE security clearance.
Appointment Details
- Duration: Initial appointment up to 24 months, with potential extension based on performance and funding.
- Eligibility: Candidates must have earned their PhD within the past five years and complete all requirements before starting.
- Security: All hires must meet ORNL and DOE credentialing requirements, including a background investigation and compliance with federal drug testing regulations.
