Role Overview

The Community & Indigenous Relations Liaison will be part of FortisBC’s Community & Indigenous Relations team, supporting the Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) project. This role requires building and strengthening partnerships with Indigenous communities, local governments, and key stakeholders. The position combines strategic planning, relationship management, and community engagement to ensure FortisBC’s projects align with its Indigenous Principles and long-term vision.

Key Areas of Responsibility

Building Relationships and Partnerships

  • Establish trusted connections with Indigenous communities, municipalities, and partner organizations.
  • Identify opportunities to strengthen engagement from transactional partnerships into long-term collaborations.
  • Act as a recognized and reliable point of contact between FortisBC and community stakeholders.

Supporting Indigenous Engagement

Strategic and Tactical Engagement

  • Develop and execute engagement strategies for the AMI project.
  • Work closely with internal teams to ensure community feedback is incorporated into project decisions.
  • Deliver engagement plans that contribute to the successful growth and operation of FortisBC’s major projects.

Leadership and Collaboration

  • Collaborate across multiple departments to strengthen community and Indigenous relations.
  • Inspire improvements within FortisBC by implementing constructive feedback from stakeholders.
  • Promote transparent communication and shared solutions through negotiation and problem-solving.

Candidate Profile

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, communications, public policy, environmental or natural resource management, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum of three years’ experience in Indigenous relations, community investment, or the energy sector.

Skills and Attributes

  • Strong communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.
  • Detail-oriented with a strategic mindset to manage both immediate needs and long-term goals.
  • Genuine ability to build trust and sustain lasting relationships.
  • Passion for supporting local and Indigenous communities.
  • Excellent writing skills and confident public communication.
