Communications Manager – Executive Content & Brand Strategy
Lemon.io is hiring a remote Communications Manager to own the company’s external voice, executive communications, and content distribution strategy. This is a senior individual-contributor role reporting directly to the founder, with significant responsibility for determining how Lemon communicates with the market and how consistently its ideas reach engineering, technology, and hiring audiences.
The role combines executive ghostwriting, company storytelling, content distribution, internal news scouting, employee advocacy, media opportunities, AI-powered workflows, and communications measurement. Lemon is looking for a strong writer who can personally create content while also building the systems that allow that content to travel further.
About Lemon.io
Lemon.io is building what it describes as an autopilot for hiring. Its platform connects companies with vetted and responsive candidates who are ready to progress toward final interviews, providing an alternative to slower traditional recruiting-agency processes.
The company works with hundreds of growing businesses, ranging from early-stage startups to enterprises, that use Lemon to build engineering teams. Lemon is profitable, bootstrapped, and operating within a recruiting industry being reshaped by technology and AI.
About the Role
As Communications Manager, your goal will be to make Lemon highly visible within conversations surrounding engineering hiring. You will own both the company’s external voice and the systems used to distribute that voice across relevant channels.
This is a hands-on communications position. You will personally handle much of the writing while creating repeatable distribution and repurposing workflows that turn company developments, founder perspectives, product insights, customer stories, and internal knowledge into consistent external communication.
The position has an intensive publishing cadence. Lemon expects the person in this role to produce content regularly and operate an ongoing distribution engine rather than relying primarily on occasional campaigns.
Executive Communications
- Lead the creation and execution of personal-brand platforms for Lemon’s founders.
- Write and distribute day-to-day content across founder channels.
- Develop content that accurately represents executive perspectives while maintaining a consistent and recognizable voice.
- Support earned-media opportunities involving founders.
- Help prepare for podcasts, panels, opinion pieces, speaking opportunities, and other public-facing appearances.
- Strengthen founder visibility within technology, engineering hiring, recruiting, and related industry conversations.
News Scouting & Narrative Development
- Participate in Product, Customer Success, Sales, and Operations discussions to uncover stories worth sharing externally.
- Identify company developments that can become meaningful public narratives.
- Turn internal milestones, product launches, lessons, and customer wins into external content.
- Develop recurring narratives that help audiences understand what Lemon represents and where the company is heading.
- Distribute company stories through social and traditional media channels.
- Look beyond formal announcements to identify useful stories hidden within everyday company activity.
Team Engagement & Employee Content
- Build an internal content program that encourages participation from employees across different functions.
- Identify internal team members who can become credible public voices for the company.
- Provide employees with ready-to-use content, ideas, and templates that make sharing their work easier.
- Coordinate team participation in relevant industry conversations.
- Create systems that consistently surface useful ideas and expertise from across Lemon.
- Help extend important company messages beyond official corporate and founder accounts.
Content Distribution, AI & Automation
- Build and maintain repeatable content-production and distribution workflows.
- Use AI tools to improve communications workflows and increase publishing efficiency.
- Create repurposing systems that allow one strong idea to become multiple content formats.
- Adapt ideas into social posts, threads, clips, newsletter content, and other relevant formats without rebuilding everything from scratch.
- Establish monitoring for company and brand mentions.
- Monitor press coverage and audience growth across relevant channels.
- Track key communications metrics and report on performance quarterly.
- Use performance information to improve future content and distribution decisions.
What Lemon.io Is Looking For
- Native or fluent English and strong cultural fluency for a U.S. technology audience.
- Exceptional professional writing ability.
- Experience writing in another person’s voice, such as ghostwriting for a founder, executive, or public-facing operator.
- A track record of telling compelling stories about a company, product, or movement.
- Relevant exposure to technology, B2B software, recruiting, talent, developer tools, or adjacent industries.
- Strong familiarity with independent media ecosystems, including Substack writers, podcasters, and influential voices on LinkedIn or X.
- Existing use of AI as part of your professional workflow.
- Comfort working in situations where the correct direction may not initially be obvious.
- A results-oriented approach with a bias toward action and measurable impact.
- Ability to thrive within a small, fast-moving team.
Experience
Lemon would typically expect approximately four or more years of relevant experience for this position. However, experience length is not an absolute requirement.
The company explicitly welcomes candidates with less experience when they can demonstrate exceptional writing ability, strong communications judgment, and the ability to perform at the required level.
What Success Looks Like in the First Four Weeks
- Systems are operating to capture useful content ideas from Lemon’s team and product activity.
- An amplification program has been established so important messages can travel through both internal and external voices.
- A content-repurposing workflow is operational, allowing one idea to become several useful formats.
- Three to five core narratives have been identified that the company can consistently reinforce.
- Several internal voices have been identified and equipped to publish regularly.
- Systems are feeding those internal contributors useful content ideas.
- The founder is publishing social content approximately four to five times per week by the fourth week.
- Baseline communications metrics have been established so future audience growth and performance can be measured accurately.
Application Requirements
Candidates should submit three writing samples demonstrating range. At least one sample must show the ability to write in someone else’s voice, such as content ghostwritten for an executive, founder, or another public-facing professional.
The application must also include a short note of no more than 200 words explaining why the role is of interest and what the candidate would aim to deliver during their first 90 days. Lemon specifically wants this response to demonstrate how the applicant thinks and what they would actually execute rather than simply summarizing a resume.
Hiring Process
- Application review within approximately seven days.
- 45-minute conversation with the hiring team.
- Paid trial project of up to 10 hours.
- Final 60-minute conversation with the founder.
- Reference checks.
- Offer for the selected candidate.
Lemon aims to complete the process from application to offer within approximately three to four weeks.
