Position Overview

The Licensed Remote Pharmacy Technician will perform patient data entry, registration, and resolution of third-party prescription rejects under direct supervision. The role requires handling high-volume customer interactions and supporting pharmacists by following standard operating procedures and company policies. The technician will use pharmacy systems to obtain and verify patient and drug information, ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations.

Primary Responsibilities

Patient Data Management & Prescription Processing

  • Enter new patient registrations and refill orders in accordance with Walgreens’ prescription data entry procedures.
  • Handle prescription requests in accordance with HIPAA guidelines, troubleshoot missing information, and interpret medical abbreviations (SIG codes).
  • Resolve all data entry exceptions promptly and accurately.

Customer & Prescriber Communication

  • Respond to inbound calls, emails, and chats from patients, and make outbound calls to prescribers and patients as needed.
  • Address and resolve third-party insurance rejections by gathering information, making corrections, and resubmitting for processing.

Support & Compliance

  • Assist pharmacists both locally and at other locations with prescription processing and issue resolution.
  • Escalate issues to senior staff as appropriate.
  • Obtain and maintain an active pharmacy technician license or certification within the first 90 days.

Required Candidate Profile

Education & Basic Requirements

  • 18 years of age or older
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Basic PC skills, including opening programs, navigating browsers, saving files, and conducting online searches
  • Intermediate keyboarding skills (minimum 25 WPM, touch typing)
  • Practical verbal and written communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Minimum one year of pharmacy technician experience in retail or call center settings
  • Certification/registration as a pharmacy technician by the state Board of Pharmacy or a nationally recognized agency (18 months of experience preferred)
  • Experience in customer service with quality evaluation
  • Advanced keyboarding skills (35 WPM or more)
  • Fluency in English and Spanish is a plus
