Information checked: October 7, 2026. Job openings and eligibility rules can change or close without notice.
Companies are still hiring remote workers in October 2026, but the opportunities are far from evenly distributed. One current remote-job dataset puts software and engineering at 37% of tracked openings, ahead of sales at 13% and data and analytics at 9%. Just 2% of that dataset was classified as entry-level.
Current career listings from employers including Mozilla, Reddit, Stripe, Affirm and Coinbase confirm that remote hiring remains active across engineering, AI/data, product, operations, finance, risk and commercial functions. But geography matters: many of these vacancies are restricted to the U.S., Canada or specifically named European and international markets rather than being open worldwide.
What the October 2026 Remote Hiring Market Looks Like
The Remote Jobs Center Hiring Index tracked 3,221 open remote roles across 299-plus companies as of October 6. Its methodology combines employer applicant-tracking systems with selected remote-job boards, so its totals should be treated as a market snapshot—not as official company hiring figures or a measurement of every remote job available.
| Remote hiring signal | Current indication |
|---|---|
| Largest category | Software & engineering — 37% |
| Other active categories | Sales 13%; data & analytics 9%; product/project 5% |
| Experience mix | 50% mid-level; 25% senior; 22% lead/executive |
| Entry-level share | 2% |
| Geographic eligibility | 43% U.S.; 33% classified worldwide |

The practical message is straightforward: remote jobs exist, but applicants may improve their odds by searching around skills, seniority and eligible location—not simply searching for the word “remote.”

Mozilla
What they’re hiring for: Mozilla’s current careers listings include software engineering, data science, product, infrastructure, security and enterprise-related positions.
Where applicants can work: Eligibility varies considerably. Current examples include U.S.-only data roles, U.S./Canada engineering roles and positions open across Canada and specifically named European countries including Germany, France, the UK, Finland, Belgium, Spain, Sweden and the Netherlands.
Who should pay attention: Experienced engineers, product specialists, data professionals and security/infrastructure candidates.
Important restriction: Mozilla’s remote openings are not automatically worldwide; applicants need to check the location attached to each vacancy.
Reddit’s careers site showed particularly visible remote activity in engineering and data science when reviewed in October 2026, alongside remote positions in community, finance, product, security and UX. Current engineering listings include backend, frontend, machine-learning and platform work.
Many positions are Remote — United States, while some openings explicitly include Ontario or British Columbia in Canada. Current listings also show selected remote opportunities in the UK, Germany, Ireland and the Netherlands.
That makes Reddit particularly relevant to experienced software, ML/data and product candidates—but not a work-from-anywhere employer for every vacancy.
Stripe
Stripe’s current job search mixes office positions with explicitly remote-designated openings, making the location label important.
Remote roles reviewed in October included U.S.-based opportunities in marketing, security and enterprise sales, while machine-learning management openings were available remotely in both the United States and Canada.
Stripe also defines a remote location in relation to its offices and tells applicants to apply for roles matching where they currently live or plan to live. Individual postings can disclose compensation; applicants should use the range shown on the specific vacancy rather than assume one Stripe-wide salary.
Affirm
Affirm describes itself as remote-first, but that does not make every opening globally accessible.
Its October careers inventory included remote software and machine-learning engineering, analytics, risk, operations, product, sales, compliance and security positions. Many were explicitly Remote US or Remote Canada, while other current opportunities were tied to the UK, Spain, Poland and Australia.
Experienced engineering candidates have substantial representation, but Affirm also illustrates an important distinction for early-career applicants: its listed 2027 software-engineering internships were based in San Francisco rather than remote.
Coinbase
Coinbase’s careers inventory shows one of the broadest remote functional mixes in this group: engineering, data, product, finance, customer experience, security, compliance, HR and business operations all appear among remote-designated openings.
The U.S. accounts for a large share, but it is not the only eligible market. Current listings also include Remote — Canada engineering and finance positions, plus selected openings tied to India, the UK, Brazil, Israel, Singapore and other specifically named countries.
Coinbase says it is remote-first but not remote-only; at least some current postings also reference periodic in-person working sessions.
Pinterest’s careers site is a useful reminder that a company’s overall jobs page can mix remote and location-based work. Its search provides a dedicated “Remote work only” filter rather than treating every vacancy as remote.
Current remote-designated openings include legal positions and a U.S. UX quantitative research internship. That internship is explicitly limited to U.S.-based applicants and requires current PhD study in a relevant field.
For applicants, the lesson is to inspect the individual listing rather than extrapolate eligibility from the employer’s broader flexible-work policies.
What These Openings Tell Remote Job Seekers
Four patterns stand out.
First, remote increasingly needs a geography attached to it. “Remote — U.S.” and “Remote — Canada” appear repeatedly across these employers. WorkinVirtual’s separate August 2026 Eligibility Index reached a similar cautionary conclusion: only 13 of 112 listings in that specific platform snapshot were classified as worldwide.
Second, experienced technical talent currently has a visible advantage. Engineering, machine learning, infrastructure, security and data positions appear repeatedly, while the broader October dataset classified only 2% of its tracked roles as entry-level.
Third, remote hiring extends beyond engineering. Finance, risk, operations, product, community, marketing and sales positions are present across the verified employer inventories.
Fourth, applicants should search by eligibility and occupation—not employer reputation alone. A company can offer dozens of remote roles while having none that match your country or professional background.
Are remote companies hiring entry-level workers?
Yes, but current evidence suggests entry-level remote opportunities are substantially less common than experienced roles. The October Remote Jobs Center dataset classified 57 of 3,221 tracked remote vacancies—2%—as entry-level. Individual employers may still offer internships or early-career programs, but those positions can be office-based even when the company hires experienced workers remotely.
How to Find the Right Remote Company Faster
- Check eligibility first. Confirm your country, state or region before investing time in the full vacancy.
- Search by job family. Target remote engineering jobs, remote data jobs, remote sales jobs or another function that matches your actual experience.
- Verify the vacancy. Before applying, confirm that the job still exists on the employer’s current careers or application page.
- Narrow the market before applying. WorkinVirtual’s remote-jobs directory surfaces location eligibility, work arrangement, compensation when supplied and application routes so candidates can compare opportunities before completing their final employer-side checks.
Are These Companies Hiring Worldwide?
Not necessarily. A remote job does not automatically mean you can work from anywhere.
An employer may allow employees to work entirely from home while limiting a vacancy to a particular country, state, province, region, timezone or work-authorization area. Mozilla, Reddit, Stripe, Affirm and Coinbase all currently demonstrate role-level geographic restrictions.
That is why candidates looking for worldwide remote jobs should verify the eligible location rather than treating “remote” as synonymous with “global.”
For a deeper explanation, see WorkinVirtual’s guide to why remote jobs are restricted by location.
Where to Look for Current Remote Jobs
The October 2026 market is not a story of remote work disappearing—or of remote jobs booming everywhere. It is a more selective market in which opportunity is clustering around particular skills, experience levels and hiring jurisdictions.
Use WorkinVirtual’s current remote jobs search to compare opportunities by role and available eligibility information, then confirm the final location, compensation, employment and work-authorization requirements on the current application page before applying.
