Internship Overview
The Software Development Engineer (SDE) Internship offers early-career technologists the opportunity to design, build, and deploy impactful software solutions in a collaborative environment. Interns gain hands-on experience with cloud-native architectures, scalable distributed systems, and cutting-edge tools like AI and GenAI technologies, while seeing the direct impact of their work on Amazon customers.
Interns are assigned a manager and mentor, participate in technical discussions, and are encouraged to take ownership of projects from design to deployment. The role is full-time, typically Monday to Friday, 8 AM–5 PM, with team-specific working norms communicated by managers.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with cross-disciplinary teams to design and operate innovative products and services.
- Develop scalable, fault-tolerant solutions using cloud-native architectures and microservices.
- Write clean, maintainable code following industry best practices and design patterns.
- Participate in code reviews, contribute to technical documentation, and resolve production issues.
- Leverage AI and GenAI-powered tools to improve development productivity.
- Build resilient distributed systems optimized for performance and cost-efficiency.

Ideal Candidate Profile
Education Requirements:
- Enrolled in a Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related fields.
Technical Skills & Knowledge:
- Proficiency in programming languages such as C/C++, Python, Java, or Perl.
- Strong understanding of object-oriented design, data structures, algorithms, operating systems, and complexity analysis.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior technical internship experience.
- Familiarity with distributed, multi-tiered systems and relational databases.
- Understanding of optimization mathematics (linear and nonlinear).
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to manage ambiguous challenges.
- Effective communication of technical ideas.
