Role Overview
The Senior Estimator will support capital investment strategies by providing accurate cost estimates for construction projects. This role focuses on evaluating actual versus estimated costs, performing value engineering analysis, and assisting leaders with informed decision-making through conceptual and feasibility estimates. The Senior Estimator will collaborate with cross-functional teams, vendors, and general contractors to ensure the successful planning, execution, and delivery of projects.
This position may include a Remote or Hybrid (“Flex for Your Day”) work arrangement depending on business needs, with less than 10% travel required to project sites.
Core Duties
- Develop accurate cost estimates to support preconstruction and capital investment decisions.
- Evaluate project budgets, historical costs, market conditions, and design information.
- Generate conceptual, schematic, and detailed estimates for a variety of construction projects.
- Perform quantity take-offs and interpret construction documents.
- Participate in value engineering analysis and provide cost-saving design alternatives.
- Conduct bid review analysis, project comparisons, and change order reviews.
- Prepare scope-of-work narratives and assumptions for all estimates.
- Present estimates to internal clients and cross-functional teams.
- Maintain market knowledge of construction costs and vendor relationships.
- Visit project sites as necessary (less than 10% of the time).
Candidate Background
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management or related field, or equivalent experience.
- Minimum 3 years of full-time commercial construction estimating experience.
- Proficiency in Excel, Microsoft Office, On-Screen Take-off, Bluebeam, or equivalent software.
- Experience with conceptual/cost model and detailed estimating, schematic, and design development estimates.
Skills & Knowledge
- Ability to perform quantity take-offs and interpret construction documents.
- Understanding of specialized foundation systems, soil stabilization, and ground improvement techniques (preferred).
- Familiarity with Construction Specifications Institute (CSI) divisions across building and site development scopes.
- Strong communication skills to clearly convey complex cost information to multiple organizational levels.
Work Arrangement
- Remote: Full-time work from home or alternate location with occasional HQ visits (up to 4 times/year).
- Hybrid/Flex: Core responsibilities can be performed onsite or remotely, depending on team needs.
