Position Overview
The Nondestructive Test (NDT) Examining Worker will perform critical inspections in the NDT Inspection Branch of the Non-Nuclear Inspection and NDT Division. This role ensures that naval assets meet quality and safety standards through precise testing, calibration, and evaluation of materials and components.
Main Responsibilities
Nondestructive Testing Duties
- Conduct visual inspections, magnetic particle inspections, and liquid penetrant inspections.
- Adjust and calibrate NDT equipment to meet testing standards.
- Interpret NDT results based on approved criteria.
- Operate NDT tools, including MT yokes, scales, protractors, and magnification lenses.
- Review blueprints, sketches, and technical manuals to understand component specifications.
Safety and Compliance
- Qualify and certify as a radiation worker.
- Follow hazardous waste management procedures.
- Wear required personal protective equipment, including helmets, gloves, coveralls, safety glasses, respirators, and safety shoes.
Operational Requirements
- Work under supervision but demonstrate independent judgment and technical skill.
- Travel up to 25% as needed, including remote or isolated sites.
- Participate in medical surveillance programs due to exposure to physical and chemical hazards.
- Complete occasional overtime, night, weekend, or holiday shifts as required.
Desired Candidate Profile
Eligibility
- Must be a U.S. citizen and suitable for federal employment.
- Must pass E-Verify and a pre-employment drug test.
- Must obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.
- Males born after 12/31/1959 must be registered for Selective Service.
Experience & Qualifications
- Demonstrated ability to perform NDT inspections with minimal supervision.
- Knowledge of metals, technical practices, and tool usage.
- Ability to follow instructions, read blueprints, and maintain equipment.
- Prior experience in trades, labor, or inspection roles is preferred.
Education
- No formal education requirement; relevant experience and training are essential.
