About the Opportunity
Talkspace is hiring a Senior AI Engineer to help design, build, and scale autonomous AI systems for its behavioral health platform.
This is a remote role aligned to Eastern Standard Time. The position focuses on production-grade AI engineering, large language models, reinforcement learning, autonomous agents, evaluation systems, MLOps, and the safety and reliability challenges involved in deploying AI in a sensitive healthcare environment.
What You’ll Do
- Design and implement the architecture for autonomous AI agents.
- Build planning modules, memory and retrieval systems, goal-setting mechanisms, and tool-use orchestration.
- Apply reinforcement learning, inverse reinforcement learning, or related control methods to adaptive behavioral interventions.
- Select, fine-tune, and deploy large language models for reasoning, natural language understanding, and context-aware communication.
- Develop human-agent interaction models informed by cognitive science and behavioral economics.
- Create simulation environments for pre-training, testing, and validating agent policies.
- Build systems for low-latency, resilient multi-agent orchestration in production.
- Evaluate and adopt new agentic frameworks, reasoning technologies, and AI system design patterns.
- Design evaluation and observability pipelines for agent behavior, including trace analysis, golden datasets, behavioral drift monitoring, guardrails, and human-in-the-loop workflows.
- Establish metrics for reasoning quality, task completion, safety compliance, and alignment.
Required Experience
Candidates need at least five years of experience in a production software engineering environment, including at least three years specifically focused on complex machine learning or autonomous systems.
A bachelor’s or master’s degree is required in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Robotics, Electrical Engineering, or another highly quantitative field.
Technical Skills
Strong Python skills are required, along with experience building and operating production machine learning systems.
Candidates should have hands-on experience with MLOps, CI/CD for machine learning models, and service-oriented architectures.
The role also requires practical knowledge of agentic AI techniques such as reinforcement learning, planning, and complex decision-making systems.
LLM and Agentic AI Experience
Hands-on experience fine-tuning, deploying, and managing large language models in production is required.
Relevant experience includes prompt engineering, retrieval-augmented generation, model cost optimization, autonomous agents, evaluation pipelines, guardrails, and observability.
Cloud and Infrastructure
Candidates should be proficient with AWS or Google Cloud Platform and with container technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.
Safety and Responsible AI
Because this work supports behavioral health products, the role places strong emphasis on safety, transparency, ethical autonomy, privacy, and careful evaluation of AI behavior.
Remote Work
This position is remote and aligned to Eastern Standard Time. Candidates should be able to work effectively within EST-based collaboration expectations.
Compensation
The base salary range for this position is $169,000 to $200,000 USD per year.
Actual compensation depends on relevant experience, skills, education, and certifications.
