Credit Risk Analyst

Shopify is hiring a remote Credit Risk Analyst to join the Shopify Payments Credit Risk team, supporting merchant risk operations across the Americas.

Shopify Payments processes billions of dollars for millions of merchants globally. The Credit Risk team works to identify and mitigate merchant risk before it results in financial loss while minimizing unnecessary friction for legitimate businesses.

As a Credit Risk Analyst, you will conduct hands-on investigations into merchant accounts by analyzing business characteristics, transactions, fulfillment activity, and chargebacks. You will connect multiple risk signals to form clear assessments and take appropriate action based on Shopify’s risk processes and your professional judgment.

You will communicate directly with merchants to gather information, address concerns, and explain decisions. You will also monitor trends across your caseload, assess how factors such as business models, seasonal patterns, and economic conditions affect merchant risk, and surface insights that can help Shopify improve its tools, processes, and detection rules.

The position incorporates AI into day-to-day risk operations. Analysts are expected to use AI tools to identify threats more efficiently and automate repetitive analytical work while retaining appropriate human judgment and ownership over investigation quality.

Candidates need previous financial-services experience in risk analysis or underwriting within digital payments, ecommerce, or marketplace environments. Strong knowledge of merchant credit risk and chargebacks is required, along with sound judgment, analytical thinking, clear written and verbal communication, and proficiency with Excel, Google Sheets, or similar spreadsheet tools.

Experience in fintech, SQL, AI-assisted analytical workflows, or high-risk business models such as pre-sales, dropshipping, and subscriptions is advantageous.
