Role Overview

The Maintenance Leader, Processing, is responsible for executing the equipment maintenance plan and leading breakdown analysis. In addition, the role drives equipment reliability, operational performance, and continuous improvement across processing lines. This position serves as a key contributor within the manufacturing team, ensuring that maintenance systems, documentation, and performance indicators support safe, efficient, and consistent production.

Core Responsibility Areas

Equipment Reliability and Maintenance Planning

The Maintenance Leader reviews and prioritizes work orders and notifications within twenty-four hours of creation. The individual ensures that the work order backlog remains current and properly sorted for reporting purposes. Furthermore, the role leads the scheduling of maintenance work for the upcoming week and month in alignment with the annual maintenance plan.

The position also supports planned stops by incorporating maintenance tasks into the plan and coordinating with relevant teams. Startup and shutdown optimization for lines and major interventions is performed in collaboration with Line Leaders and Process Engineers.

Daily Operations and Performance Tracking

The role leads daily meetings to review completed jobs, ongoing maintenance activities, and current plans. Adjustments are made based on scheduled work and unexpected interruptions. Maintenance indicators and in-process measures are continuously tracked, while results from key performance indicators are reviewed and shared with department leadership monthly.

Improvement plans are developed through systematic tracking of maintenance metrics. The Maintenance Leader monitors the health of preventive maintenance and daily management systems, and recommends corrective actions to eliminate breakdowns and improve asset life.

Technical Documentation and Knowledge Development

Maintenance technical documentation, equipment drawings, and schematics must remain accurate, accessible, and up to date. The role creates One Point Lessons and trains line teams in maintenance-related activities. In addition, the annual maintenance plan and calendar are developed and updated under this position’s guidance.

Collaboration and System Integration

The Maintenance Leader works closely with the storeroom to manage parts availability, identify obsolete items, and optimize stock levels. The individual provides design feedback for new equipment or line speed changes and participates in vendor acceptance testing and project work.

This role also serves as a subject-matter expert, supporting other maintenance leaders and contributing to the plant’s preventive maintenance systems. Participation in the Integrated Work Systems framework is essential, with ownership of performance in safety, quality, cost, delivery, and continuous improvement.

Safety, Compliance, and Standards

Adherence to plant standards, safety requirements, quality systems, and regulatory expectations is mandatory. The Maintenance Leader ensures compliance with established procedures and promotes a safe working environment across all maintenance activities.

The position requires frequent standing, walking, bending, stooping, and the use of hands for tools and equipment. Lifting from light to moderate weights is common, with occasional team lifting of heavier loads. Work often occurs on concrete surfaces for extended shifts lasting up to 12 hours.

The environment includes exposure to moving mechanical parts, wet or humid conditions, plant noise, and industrial materials. Occasional exposure to heights, cold conditions, vibration, and electrical risk may occur. Reasonable accommodations may be provided where required.

Desired Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate demonstrates strong technical capability, leadership presence, and the ability to manage maintenance systems in a manufacturing setting. The individual shows analytical thinking, problem-solving skills, and the ability to influence teams.

A high school diploma or equivalent is required. A four-year engineering degree is preferred. Alternatively, three to five years of manufacturing experience with demonstrated technical and leadership ability may be considered.

Preferred Competencies

Candidates are expected to know maintenance planning and scheduling systems and to have hands-on experience troubleshooting electrical, electronic, mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems. Strong communication skills, as well as proficiency in Microsoft Office and SAP, are important.

The role requires adaptability, sound judgment, and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Flexibility to support a manufacturing operation, including overtime or weekend shifts, may be necessary.
