Role Summary
The Exploration Geoscientist joins the Exploration, Strategy, and Portfolio organization, which leads exploration and appraisal activities across the hydrocarbon value chain worldwide. The role sits within the Opportunity Identification and Emerging Ventures team and reports to a team leader in this function.
This individual contributor position focuses on integrated exploration evaluation in deepwater depositional settings. The role supports regional play evaluations, opportunity maturation for drilling, and participation in appraisal workflows.
Core Responsibility Areas
Regional and Prospect Evaluation
The geoscientist delivers integrated subsurface evaluations that support critical decisions on acreage access and drilling activities. In addition, the role operates effectively at both basin scale and lead or prospect scale, which ensures a comprehensive geological understanding.
Integrated Subsurface Collaboration
The position works closely with a multi discipline subsurface team across plays and basins. Collaboration with asset teams is essential, as it enables end to end project delivery and reduces handover gaps and cycle time.
Competitive and Strategic Insight
The professional monitors competitor activity and incorporates relevant intelligence into exploration strategies. As a result, evaluations remain commercially and technically informed.
Opportunity Maturation and Delivery
The role advances prospects and supports them in delivering well. It supports regional play-based evaluations and develops geological scenarios from quality-controlled seismic data.
Ideal Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate demonstrates a strong exploration mindset and the ability to evaluate and communicate multiple subsurface scenarios. The individual remains comfortable managing high uncertainty and focuses their efforts on the most critical risks that inform decision-making. Clear communication, strong data management capability, and a willingness to adopt new workflows are essential.
Leadership behaviors are also expected, particularly a learning mindset and consistent alignment with the values of respect and inclusiveness.
Education and Technical Requirements
Academic Background
A Master’s or PhD degree in Geoscience is required.
Professional Experience
The candidate brings significant experience as an exploration geoscientist, with a background as a geologist or geophysicist. A proven record in seismic interpretation, prospect evaluation, and exploration delivery is necessary.
Technical Expertise
The professional shows capability in:
- Lead to prospect maturation
- Geological scenario development from seismic data
- Prospect for well delivery
- Regional play-based evaluation
In addition, experience in at least two of the following areas is expected:
- Seismic processing project management
- Play identification
- Lead portfolio generation
- New business or farm in activities
- Heartland rejuvenation play evaluations
The candidate must also demonstrate the ability to integrate multidisciplinary and multisource data into exploration evaluations.
Work Authorization
Legal authorization to work full-time in the United Kingdom is required, along with a willingness to live and work in the London area.
