Role Summary
The Senior Workday Integration and Extend Developer is a core member of the HR Technology team. This role demands deep technical expertise in Workday integration tools, strong analytical capabilities, and close collaboration with HR, IT, Finance, Payroll, and business stakeholders. The position focuses on building, optimizing, and maintaining secure and scalable integrations that ensure seamless data flow across enterprise systems.
As a senior technical contributor, the developer supports a portfolio of existing integrations while designing new solutions aligned with business needs, architectural best practices, and compliance standards.
Core Responsibility Areas
1. Enterprise Integration Architecture
The role involves identifying, assessing, and solving complex business challenges related to integrating the Workday cloud platform with external systems across multiple Human Capital Management domains. This includes applying advanced data modeling techniques and integration design patterns.
2. Integration, Development, and Delivery
The developer leads the design, development, and testing of Workday integrations using Workday Studio, Core Connectors, EIBs, Cloud Connect, APIs, RaaS, DT, Orchestrate, Extend, and third-party technologies. Responsibilities include building scalable and high-quality integration solutions that meet enterprise requirements.
3. Cross-Functional Collaboration
A close partnership with HR, Payroll, Finance, and IT teams is required to gather requirements, translate business needs into technical designs, and deliver solutions that support operational efficiency and accuracy.
4. Production Support and Optimization
The role includes analyzing, debugging, and resolving production issues related to Workday integrations. The developer proactively identifies opportunities to improve performance, automate processes, and enhance system reliability.
5. Security, Compliance, and Data Governance
All integrations must align with security best practices, data privacy regulations, and compliance standards. The developer ensures data integrity and secure transmission across systems.
6. Testing and Quality Assurance
The position leads integration testing efforts, including unit testing and user acceptance testing. This includes preparing test scripts, validating outcomes, and ensuring solutions meet business expectations.
7. Extend and Advanced Logic Development
The role requires hands-on experience writing and maintaining XSLT and MVEL expressions to manipulate data and automate business logic within Workday Studio integrations. Prior experience with the Workday Extend application development platform is essential.
8. Documentation and Delivery Management
The developer thoroughly documents integration designs, configurations, and processes to support long-term maintainability. Experience working in Agile environments, managing multiple initiatives, and meeting deadlines is expected.
Ideal Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate is a seasoned Workday integration professional with substantial technical depth, excellent problem-solving skills, and the ability to communicate complex concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Educational Background
A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline is required.
Professional Experience
The role requires at least six years of experience in data migration, integration development, report building, RaaS, or software development. A minimum of four years of direct Workday integration development experience is essential, including hands-on work with Workday Studio, Core Connectors, EIBs, SOAP and REST web services, Extend, and Workday APIs. Prior experience developing at least two Workday Extend application use cases is mandatory.
Technical Skills and Competencies
The candidate must demonstrate hands-on experience developing and supporting end-to-end Workday integrations across functions such as Core HCM, Compensation, Recruiting, Learning, Benefits, Finance, IT, and Procurement. Strong expertise in the full technology implementation lifecycle is required, from requirements gathering through launch.
Advanced proficiency in RaaS, EDI, web services, XSLT, Java, .NET, XML, JSON, SOAP, and REST APIs is expected. Familiarity with XML transformations, namespaces, XSD, ServiceNow case management, Agile delivery frameworks, and Workday-specific tools such as MVEL is highly valued. Strong analytical thinking, attention to detail, and practical communication skills are critical for success in this role.
